I wonder if people get a refund if their device is still under warranty.
Pretty much unlikely if a company goes out of business.

Open source would be a great idea!

True, I thought it was just the service / app they closed down, and not the whole company.

I assume you can extract data from it, without being online or logget in, so it is still usable?
8) Peter
I don't think so, the server is going to be shut down and the App no longer usable.
If it is installed on your phone i think it must work, still of course you will not see leaderboard.
According to the email the app requires server authentication to start up so ...... Quite a loss of functionality. You can still see the last jump height on the device but I'm going to be looking for a replacement. At least with xensr you could connect via USB and see the data on the device.

Maybe others also received such message of Piq end or not?
Is PiQ site is no information about the end https://piq.com/
Also i don’t understand why this app cannot work further and wht Duatone as they are partners of this project cannot give servers just to keep possibilities for logins? In general this is very not fair if they not will take care of piq servers. This is shame for Duotone as they have/receive big advertising in this device.

My guess is that the PIQ registration/license system is online. If you turn your phone onto airplane mode with just bluetooth on, you can't actually sync with your PIQ. This makes sense given you are only supposed to be able to use a single device per sport - if you remember, there was a registration code that came with the device that you needed to use to set it up in the first place.

It might be possible to work around this if you could get hold of the APIs. Might be possible to put a packet sniffer on the network and capture the traffic to reverse engineer the logon/license messages and then spoof service that it goes to. Not sure however how much of a legal grey area it would be though to work around a companies code though, even if that company has gone bust?

I wouldn't be that sure about it, at least in the EU. I am not a lawyer, so take it with a grain of salt. In the EU the seller is responsible for the product to be working for 2 years from sell date. The important thing is that the responsibility lies on the shop, not the manufacturer. From a client perspective it is a device that stopped working, so in theory a shop is responsible to fix this.
If goods you bought anywhere in the EU turn out to be faulty or do not look or work as advertised, the seller must repair or replace them free of charge or give you a price reduction or a full refund.

On air plane mode (disconnected wifi, 4g, no internet) I succesfully connected to piq and paired with it and synced session. So, definitely it will work without server login. So, only problem will appear with new in future ios and if you ininstall this app from your phone or will have new phone:)

If PIQ provided Bluetooth communication protocol with their sensor, theoretically I could write an app to download and review the jumps. No social or leaderbords functionality though.

Or, it would be even better if PIQ opened source of their app, so it could be modified to work with sensor directly without servers.

Unlikely. But maybe there is something else that can be done, I'll check with WOO. Good idea :thumb:
