Always problems with abs

Postby 1234567Simon » Tue May 11, 2021 8:51 am

Ok, yes.... I am not the six-pack abs Monster....🤦‍♂️

One hour of twin tip boosting: I feel my abs the next three days....

Two hours of twin tip boosting: can’t move for 5 days

Especially lower abs are killing me.
Already switched to a seat harness. It got better...

YES: I have been working out my abs with focus on the lower abs.... it got better, but still riding two days in a row full power is not possible.

Problem is, if I go ride full power while still feeling the Muskels hurting, the Risk of injury is quite big.

What’s the Trick?
I know a lot of people have the same trouble.
Do you „big air“ boosting guys, really focus on abs-workout?
Hanging down from something and pulling up the legs?

For me this is a real issue, so serious answers are welcome....

Thanks a lot BR

My advice is to do at least 10mins (ideally more) of abs every day & to do it properly, get an old bar, bolt it to something solid and holding on to the bar, do x4 sets of suspended leg raises until exhaustion - start with bent knees, working up to straight legs (pivoting at the hip). Also make sure you do as many back extensions to balance your core. Squats & particularly doing squats (better with dumbells) balancing on one leg also work well for overall core strength. I'm ancient & can do a 4hr session without any ab issues at all (aside from feeling knac5ered the next day!).

How consistently do you kite?

Jumping certainly works your abs, but as with all muscle they usually adapt (get strengthened) with time.

Don’t start doing lots of crunches without considering the lower back and discs. I have heard that a number of military organisations no longer do crunches. Lots of plank, gym ball and bar exercises you can do without so much wear on the spine. Or old school medicine ball work out especially if you have an evenly matched partner.

Adds get a major work out in a freestyle bug without a back support if you get the chance. Most fun adds workout I have. I don’t think what you are feeling is particularly abnormal if you are boosting on every tack for an hour. The older you get the more selective you are with the ramp you want to jump off .

I used to stop to do plank exercises when walking past local railings, need to start doing that again now less virus about, but you have to accept that others will think you are weird.

PS a smaller board may help?

Ha ha,

Feel your pain man.

What if I tell u that I broke T12-13 and they moved a bit my ribs for inserting metal? 20 years ago tho.

U are doing something wrong, I think. Normally I jump a lot. Doing no workouts at all and have no issues with abs or lower back. Very powered, hate being underpowered.

I think your landings are the issue. How fast do u land? Me? Feather light. I must, since many many broken bones, cant risk another.

See, my issue is upper legs. Quads. They burn like after first day of the snowboarding season. If u know what I mean.

Using seat harness. So if u doing a lot of hot landings, that is the issue.

If you find the magic bullet let me know. :) I can L-sit for a minute but 2 consecutive days of kiting gives me mega ab stiffness and I generally only get an hour at a time in a session.

Stretching the abs out after a session does help to reduce the recovery time (basically backbends for 2-3 minutes a couple of times over the next couple of days) but it won't let you off the hook. I suspect the difference is not weak abs entirely but probably down to another muscle group like the hip flexors/adductors being weak which means that we use the abs to compensate for work that the weak muscles should be doing. Out of interest - for those who don't get ab pain, can you touch your toes with legs straight?

For me it depends a lot on how hard you are edging and preloading the kite. More speed and better timing plus a good ramp will lessen the grunt needed. Normally we get good ramps, but just for the experience I had a day of trying to use max preload bunny hopping in the flats and my ads certainly felt the difference. Stoked that downunder made it back with a bit of extra hard ware.

there is no magic..

if you have weak abs.. you need to strengthen them.
(while it is true that abs are 'made' in the kitchen(diet).. you still need to strengthen them)

3 words to strengthen: roman sit ups.
do it everyday(min 100 per day).. until you can do 500 non-stop.
you'll notice results in no more than 2 weeks

you're welcome.

Dear all!

Thanks a lot!!! Lots of good answers in short Time show me , That I am not the only one!

If I go kiting every week, and I go easy the first weeks..... after 5 weeks everything gets much better!!

So yes: more kiting helps.... but after a 8 week break, everything starts over....

I think I can show you the exact second when I get the most pressure: actually just the moment while taking of when jumping.
So the Moment when you pull the bar:

Maybee it really is the board or my technic. I often have the feeling the board sticks to the water and I have to pull extra hard with the legs...

I put some screen shots out of a YouTube Film.

He is just fully loading up, and I marked MY CRITICAL MOMENT.
