Could anyone with a Soul confirm that a 12m will work best with the larger (60cm) bar? I am thinking of (re) buying a Soul to use as a light wind kite and given my other kites are LEIs I'd like to maximise turning speed. I think Flysurfer recommend the smaller bar for the 12m.

Flysurfer recommendation is faulty. I had 50cm bar with 12m Soul and it was pain, literally. Get 60cm bar and you won't regret it.

I fly all Souls with medium bars 6m to 15m - Its preference for sure. Bigger the bar, easier control.

Grab bar wide when flying souls and it will increase turning speed, I used to hold bar while flying it like I did with XR6 8&11m which is very close to middle and this is mistake, better to hold it wide for turning. I’m using medium size with 15m

More important is the right backline length and the right steering impulse

Yes definitely a different way of flying which is why I went back to LEIs in the end. Definitely wouldn’t go back to a full set of Souls but the 12m was an awesome light wind kite for a lightweight like me.

Its been mentioned before in this thread but you can go too big with a bar. If you go too wide, you end up stalling one side of the kite too much and lose all drive out of the kite in the turn which kind of defeats the object of having a kite like the soul that has drive through the turns.

But this is also the advantage of using a long bar, you can chose to stall one side of the kite, flipping it 180° with no pull. This is very handy in a crash, you can turn the kite hard back up without being dragged through the water.
I use a 60cm bar on my 10mtr Soul, works great.
