The clear difference in my safety advice is that kiting IS the most safe of any "extreme" sport. THAT sentence MIGHT bring a new kiters in. On the other side, if one wants to learn about safety this is NOT the place and it MIGHT scare a new kiter off.
...
Kiting might be Fun and safer than some other extreme sports ; yet
people Do die while kiting, and other kiters should know Why they
died, so-as they don't make the same mistake. Don't know any other
way to state it . If people get scared off by Reality ; then maybe they
should be watching TV , instead of kit-boarding ?

Define "don't make the same mistake" ? I'm still waiting to learn how you lost your legs, so I "do not make the same mistake"?

Can we agree that this is oversimplifying? What happened to you will hardly EVER happen to someone else. You were just unlucky.

See, even Toby mentioned numerous times that LUCK was on his side. Somehow you guys keep very low profile when reading that. (*)

But some of you keep very high profile when other people, like me, say the same. Which to me looks some of you have a problem with authority.

Some would NEVER question Dimitry/Toby or any best rider on safety decisions...But they do question decisions of deceased people...

~

End no, I do not agree. It does not matter how much I enjoy kiting, I would NEVER skydive or have a tarantula on me. My wife would NEVER kitesurf even though she ski. But hey, I climbed ALL 3 active Vulcano's in Indonesia, and my avatar is from one. Three Sisters, as they are called. So many people die on it, that's like crazy. But that climb would be banned in the US, correct? Just like it is banned to climb Uluru.

That has nothing to do with reality. But fear. Now, tell us what is your fear? :) Eating ants? :) Why? They are delicious.

Ha ha, what reality has to do with it? Sorry for being that direct, but hey, we all die at some stage.

I'm still waiting to read what is the acceptable number of deaths. No answer? Ah well. Pick the number guys!

Or not... It is simple. We have no answer. No one has. Or no one wants to take responsibility in a fear to end up being accused as stupid. Or sociopath...

Remember, people who do not wear safety are also accused of the same. Now see (*).

In the USA its all done state by state. Whether you can climb the active volcanoes in Hawaii is up to Hawaii. Usually you're allowed to. Whether and when you can kiteboard is also done on the state level or local level.

Sure, except if 10 people die every year it would be banned.

With all advanced safety people die more and more climbing Mt Everest.

Over 100 people die swimming in Florida but it's not banned because tourism is too important. People come to Hawaii to see volcanoes so they won't ban it just because 10 people die. Economics beats safety every time.

Except they banned climbing to Uluru.

So there u go, 100 or 10 is acceptable number for them. It would not be acceptable in AU no matter of economy.

Thats why we have a shark nets...Different topic tho.

Yeah I can't imagine that. If the tourism brings in enough money it's ok to kill yourself, that's the attitude of most states (not all). It is also why it is critically important for local kiters that want to preserve their beaches to bring in surfers, kayakers, wingers, windsurfers and other water sports enthusiasts so when the local committees see a proposed ban might impact tourism they back off.

They banned people in Tokyo for this event, I see no problem at all.

If the risk is bigger than some number, they can do whatever.

There is no climbing stairs on Eiffel Tower in Paris any more. So there u go...

Kiters are minority. Sure, I understand the local issues, but if I need to travel 100-500km for kiting, I would not. Plenty of other options for recreation. We are here spoiled by choice, so...
People surf every day, some 3 times a day. Not the same as climbing something once in the lifetime.

Well, you are taking it personal. As said, it is easy to accuse anyone on anything but not giving away ANY actual facts about personal choices which resulted in an injury. Or disibility.

And this was not the case years ago, since there were no people who constantly questioned everyone and acted as an authority on whatever the subject is.

So you are really barking on the wrong tree. I can also say Im done with the Forum, but why taking it so seriusely? ;) Are we not killing some time here just to give this site some traction, b/c forum with no users is dead?

It is your choice. Just watch how traction goes into the drain...
