I thought I'd post again now that I've had a couple of well powered sessions on the V2 Surf 150. It definitely performs well and is fun to ride. As has been mentioned it has a higher top end speed and glides better than the classic 150. Turning is easy and it feels very responsive to tighter or longer turns. I'm at a stage where I'm tacking to toeside and then switch feet. I feel like I can carry better speed around the tack onto the new reach with the V2 Surf. When I did get over powered it was managable and easy to ride. While it has really good low end speed I'm still getting used to how to pump back on a plane when it stalls. It seems like the Classic wings slowly drop off a plane and sink. They are also easy to pump up and get planing again. This wing has a lot of lift and will stay up almost at a dead stop and it's a little different getting it moving forward again. I think that's something I'll get used to pretty quickly.

So does that mean you like the 150 surf V2 better for kite foiling over 150 classic? Or is the difference in handling have its downsides too?

Close but overall I prefer the 150 Classic. Just a perfect wing for me. The downside is they no longer make it and it doesn't travel well.

Have borrowed a v2 surf 150 and was out on it twice today. Usually on a 170 classic.

The 150 with 40 tail is the same fuse length as my 170. The stabs have the same wing span just a bit less area on the surf 40. The main wing is much higher aspect and has around 10 cm bigger wingspan. I breached the tips a fair bit at first. The V2 150 surf is lower drag. There is noticeably more glide in transitions. Turns just as well and feels a little “looser”. Feels better at high speeds than the 170. Not sure it’s much faster, just nicer when going fast but front foot is further forward. The biggest difference for me though is in how they ride at slow speeds. The 170 classic is so much nicer handling down near stall speeds. Everything from aggressive cut backs to water starts and landings are easier on the 170. Where the 150 surf has nice glide in tacks, the 170 can be so much easier to control in slower moments of direction change and you can ride the stall, where the 150 surf will drop out harder and buck you more easily.

So far it’s been a relief to find I like my 170 better. I get that Lift are looking for efficiency but am not sure that’s what I personally want as a free ride kite foiler. I have a kite to take my weight and find my speed envelope is pretty slow. I like the slicker feel of less drag, but in the end prefer the forgiving low end nature of a real spade shaped wing.

I don’t think my tastes are exactly universal so you should try it and judge for yourself.

I have the v2 Surf 150 (38 tail) and the v1 Surf 170 (40 and 50 tail), and have flown them back to back.

I can echo much of what JTS said.

With the 38 tail, the v2Surf150 is very pitch stable, about as much as the v1Surf170. But it is the roll stability that is much less on the v2Surf150. So much so that I will choose the v1Surf170 when riding in the open ocean or heavily rolling water. The v2Surf150 is just more tiring to ride, with no real added benefit. While the v2Surf150 does glide more, as JTS said above, it really suffers when going slow (all of a sudden Plunk!).

The v2Surf150 has a much greater ramp up in front foot pressure than every other Lift wing I've flown. At top speed, the length of the Mucho Macho makes it very tiring to hold it down. Compare that to a v1Surf200, which I have no problem holding down on the same board.

I think the new tails match up better with the new v2 series. I tried using the 38 tail on my v1Surf170 and the 200; not as stable at speed. The new tails are flat, no tip curl, unlike the older 40 or 50 tails. I haven’t tried the older tails on the v2Surf150 yet.

I don’t see the classic wings on their site. If this v2Surf150 is the ‘kite’ wing they are offering, I don’t really see anything I would suggest to a beginner, at least nothing as easy to learn on as the classic 170 I started on.

I am wondering about the mast compatibility over the years. Is the Lift mast that is used for the classic wings the same mast that is used for v1 wings and new 2021 v2 wings?

Yes, they are compatible. I put the V2 150 surf wing on the mast that came with my 170 classic.

After riding both the Lift 170 Classic and 150 Surf V2, I found the mast position needs to be moved backwards about .75" further back for the 150 Surf V2 wing. Originally I would have echoed what others have said about the 150 Surf V2. However, after moving the mast position back, I found the 150 Surf V2 does everything better than the 170 Classic. It is faster, goes upwind better, more pitch stable, turns better, is more responsive/agile, pumps better, the glide improvement is insane and it can also be ridden at a slower stall speed with the correct foot pressure. My transitions have improved 100% on the 150 Surf V2 and I have found it more fun to ride. I am using the 150 Surf V2 with the Glide 32 stabilizer. Great combo for ocean swell riding. I still think the 170 Classic is probably more user friendly for beginners but the 150 Surf V2 w/Glide 32 can take your kite foiling to another level.

@mmac...Thanks for the review...would you mind sharing what the new (or old) distance is between rear bolts and the tail of the board, also what the overall length of your board is?

Thanks..
