Postby rnelias » Mon Aug 30, 2021 2:01 am

Does anyone have an advice of good (and, possibly, affordable) bone conduction headphones to listen some musice while hydrofoiling?

Im using the Sony NW-WS623. I use spotify through my Garmin watch connected through bluetooth. They also come with a build in 4GB storage. Works really well, unless your wrist or head is under water. You really need to 'twist' the headphones in your ear to make them fit. They are pretty locked and can take some crashes. With harder crashes sometimes one of them comes loose. Make sure you have an extra rope or something connected to your wetsuit. Music quality is oke, not super good. But on the water I dont mind being the quality less than my other headphones (Jabra Elite 75t).

I have a JBL Endurance Dive that I was thinking about to try on salt water but I'm not too confident that it will resist. It's IPX7 and, in theory, should resist up to 1m immersion but it has micro-usb connection without any protection and I'm sure it'll not last very long on salt water. At least it would not be a terrible loss as the sound is not good (lack of bass).

While I would not call it affordable, I've been using Aftershokz Xtrainerz MP3 player. Happy with it so far, no issues in salt or fresh water. Battery good for 2 to 3 sessions

But isnt the total silence and that you can feel and hear the nature, the very reason hydrofoil is so addicitive and amazing?

Just me, I know, but there are many threads about this very topic in the kitesurfing forum - so very curious as to why you find it different for kitefoil compared to kitesurf?

I've never thought about listening to music while riding on a tt and probably misplaced my question... :thumb:

btw, I've searched other threads but they're outdated ;)

No, I think you got it right, just didnt know you searched the main forum, sorry.

We are all different, my mistake - I just love to hear and feel the nature, which is the best music I know, and maybe the very reason I love all kinds of surf :thumb:

Its all okay - and technically I would be very interested in the "bone conduction" principle, interesting, eventhough I would never use it myself

For me, the sound of waves overwhelms the sound from my headphones (Xtrainerz). I usually foil in a bay and not in the open ocean, so only the sound of the wind can interfere, and that isn't usually that bad.

Going downwind with a foil, with a quiet type music playing (not rock), is ethereal.
