Correct, its back is light green. Sighting from above its looks like a green snake.

I would rather worry about a horse on a street than that fish.
But, few times per year the Portuguese Man-of-war appears on the NE coast…they can be a real problem.
End of October and December from my experience.

i've decided to accept the board color hypothesis:
1- my board is not black, and i'd prefer to think i'm not at risk.
2- a black board would be more easily confused with a dolphin or shark, and jumping out of the water seems like a great escape mechanism.
anyway, looks like a nice windy day here in taiba, and there is no chance i'm going to spend the day in the lagoon, so not a lot of choice for me.
