Short B-safe line, Peak 6m?

Postby merl » Tue Sep 21, 2021 5:13 pm

The B-safe line across my 6m Peak is too short - it distorts the inflated cells completely. I have a 5m for reference, so I know it is not right. I extended with some line but not enough, and I ran out, so I was hoping for some help but neither the dealer nor flysurfer answer my mail about this.

Anyone else had this problem? Did you get any help with it or just fix it yourself? (I have the light-blue 6m, if that makes any difference).

Yes, had the same problem with my 11. I think they sometimes mix up the lines with one from smaller kites. I did order a replacement, I think from Germany. When comparing it was a lot longer and fixed the problem. I'll look up where I got it and post later..

Looks like I just ordered it from their website, download a line plan first to check the part you need. I left the bsafe in for snowkite but most remove it I think..

Sounds like the bsafe is already installed/preinstalled when you buy the kite? I though the user had to install it?
I just got a set of peak4 kites, so I am (also) new in this.

The line in the kite is already installed, that goes from tip to tip pretty much. That can be left in because it has no adverse effect on flying or anything.

The line from that to the bar needs to be installed or not depending on your preference and is in the bag separate.

The actual 5th line to the bar a lot of people take/leave out because it makes untangling the bridles a bit easier and there is really no need for it on the water besides difficult landing spots. I leave mine in becasue I like being able to pull the kite down in small spots and because I fly the kites on land and snow too.

Interesting that you ordered a new one. I would have thought that if Flysurfer put in the wrong line then they should replace it without the owner having to spend EUR30.

Yes, you can fly without it if you are not running a 5th line, but Armin said in the Peak thread that you should keep it in as it stabilises the kite.

I have tested and measured to find the correct length, as you could see the tips had a "kink" in the middle because the span line was a tad too short.
Kite flies just fine even with the short span line, but it is not looking perfect.

It is correct on the 3 and 4 and 5 and 8 m2 (at least those I bought), but on the first productions of 6 m2's (they must have changed it on the new ones) the span line needs to be 2 inch longer (50-54 mm)

I just added a short piece of line to one end of the span line, fixed now.

But as I tested without as the last test, to see that the tips were standing correctly and straight both with and without span line, I have just flown it without ever since (lazy, why should I install it again), no issues.

My 6m needed a longer span line. Measured against the specs on the bridle plan available for download on their website, mine was almost 5 inches short. I made one from the extra line that comes in the repair kit.

The last couple of sessions my 4m has been flying with a small kink in one of the wing tips. At first I assumed something was caught on one of the bridle lines, but I can't see anything wrong. Now I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the B safe line. I've flown dozens of sessions with this kite without noticing anything in the past. I'm thinking I might try removing the B safe line to see if that makes a difference. Does it have absolutely no effect on the flying of the kite other than the possibility of collapsing the kite when wanted?
