Ion Riot Curv 9/14

Postby petato2 » Mon Oct 25, 2021 7:32 pm

Hi after several years I need to replace my Ion Apex 2011 harness.

I am interested in a hardshell, not too hard, surf rope set up.

Father of three kids with budgetary restrictions, wont pay more than 200-250 €.

Can any of you provide your experience with the Ion Riot Curv, 9 or 14 models ?

Thanks

I was using the Riot Curv 14. Its a very good harness and suited me well. Not quite as "premium" in terms of finish or materials versus the Mystic Majestic or Ride Engine, but it was comfortable for me and the closure system worked well.

I recommend getting the upgraded version with the metal buckles (I think it is called the "Select"). Also, Im a ~31-32" waist and a medium for most sizing charts. Contrary to the sizing chart, I found the Small fit me better. I haven't ever used the surf slider, so I can't really comment firsthand, but it feels a little flimsy in terms of its attachment. If I were to use it, I would probably DIY a more secure system (which should be fairly easy).

I have riot curv 14 plastic buckles. I used the slider works well but wore through some plastic on my loop with a few sessions. Really need a ring on it. I do or try strapless freestyle and feels better with a hook so i have both now. I did brake the plastic bit on one side that the webbing goes through but ion replaced it straight away.
My 1st hardshell and i love it. For me it's the best upgrade i have ever made. 25+ knots my old harness really crushed me, completely different now.

Make sure you try on the Dakine C2 before you make the decision. This will fit your budget and is an excellent harness, I love mine
