North Comp 5.0 or something bigger

Postby Alpa3094 » Thu Nov 25, 2021 9:12 am

Hi,

I would like to help me choosing the right kite surfboard size . Yesterday I bought a North comp 5.0 that was in a really great discount . I know that it is a clear freestyle board and it would be my first directional board. I am 66kg and 1.93m height (I am tall and thin enough). Based on the North's size chart this board size (5.0) is ideal for my kilos but today I am enough skeptical about my choice since my height is 1.93m !! Do you think that should I get a bigger surfboard selling this one or to give it a try ?? :D

It might be a bit on the smaller side for your length (I'm 190 x 78kg) but for weight ok. It depends a bit on how wide stance you have etc. My freestyle boards are 5'0 and 5'2 but for wave riding then with sharp nosed boards 5'8 is pretty much minimum, otherwise with my stance & length it's too easy to get too much pressure on the front of the board in certain situations. Being long has its disadvantages I know :/
If it was 299€ then I would perhaps keep it and try it and later on sell it if it's not something you like. You can learn the basic stuff with it no problem. In proper bigger waves, you might feel the drawback of the short length, however it also depends on the nose rocker, ie. very flat then it becomes more easily a problem.

Thank you for your quick reply. Yes it was about this price :p However I live in Greece and mostly we have choppy conditions and the biggest wave in certain spots (with a max wind speed) is until 2-3 meters !

ok, I hope someone riding the exact board could chime in and tell how it rides. It's a bit tough to say how it works for you like you mentioned for your weight it's ok, but for us tall guys one needs to think about the person's length because it affects how the board rides. Sorry I cannot be a real help to you ie. saying yes or no to keep it.

Keep it and learn on it, even if it is not the "perfect" size for you, i don't think at this point it matters, you will get used to it and you will love it anyway.

Thank you all guys for your answers. Maybe to keep it, test it, and will see if it is gonna be the right size :)
