Foil choice

Postby Tinouch » Sun Nov 27, 2022 4:44 pm

I am a 100 kg rider
Actually I ride for years with my Moses 633
I don’t like the 699 kraken
I keep my T38 board which I love
I have naish boxers 8-10-12-14
The mast could be Alu or Carbon not a such difference
I ride most of the time in a low wind spot 10-15 knots
On my spot we hit a lot the bottom because of the rocs

What would you choose for a foil set

With good acceptable versatility concerning :

Lift
Stability
Speed
Manoeuvrability
And a solide construction

Thx for your feedbacks

If you like the 633 but just want to go a little faster and have a little more glide you should go to the 679 . Lots of people "Graduate" to it from the 633. If a low stall speed is important and you are still enjoying mid aspect wings its a solid contender .

The 699 is a good bit smaller that the 633. I think it’s all right.

799 is magical for kitefoil IMO. Just a bit smaller than 633. Higher aspect but still super forgiving. Brilliant at walking speeds and also reasonably fast when needed.

For those front wings
Should you change your fuselage ?
I have an insane 91 mast

The 699/799 wings are the new system surf fuselage with M8 which wont fit the 91 mast fuselage which uses m6 by default.
However, you can add some m6 to m8 washers to make it compatible.
For the new system also a new WT633 is coming based on the Swiss Sabfoil site, however it is an higher aspect wing compared to the “old” 633: https://sabfoil.ch/produkt/wt633-front- ... -1250-cm2/

For the old system with 91, surf fuselage with m6, without washers would be to search for a 679 used or old stock.
However, not sure what you disliked about the 699 but the 679 might have the same issue for you…
Also, why move away from your current 633? What do you look for in a new wing?

I think some slingshot wings will also be compatible with your fuselage but I am not familiar with their line up to suggest a specific model.

Thx for you feedback

I love my 633
with my wight 100 kg it has imo a very good behaviour in a very low wind
it turns well
the top speed is very fair for me, I am not a racer and it goes fast enough at 20-25 knots
My problem is that at our spot every 2-3 years ou need a new foil because of the damages when you hit rocs in the river (and I am not alone , it is very usual)
every two months I have to repair / sand the wing ...
if I buy again an old 633 , you can not replace it
and if you change , you have to change the mast ? and / or the fuselage ...
I red a bit about 699 and they don't have very good reviews
and with my weight and a surface of 950 cm2 , I am not sur if it has a good rise and or a low stall speed

Maybe I wasn’t clear enough: you can keep using the old 91 and fuselage with the new wings but you need some washers from m8 to m6.
So you won’t be running out of new options as long as you can find something that works for you in the new line up.

(The real problem is getting the new kraken mast and surf fuselage and using the old wings: you will need to drill into your wing to make the m8 fit and they don’t recommend doing it for eg the 679. Seeing you wear through a wing quite often anyway this isn’t likely to become an issue for you if you ever want to upgrade to kraken)

Not sure if any foil really stands up to hitting rocks frequently. I think pretty much all wings are carbon and that material just doesn’t like big impacts with hard surfaces.
Maybe a gong setup would be a bit better since the shapes are a bit simpler and they seem to be build more for sturdiness rather than highest possible performance. Another big pro would be that replacing a gong wing is cheap when you eventually need to.
Off course it’s probably not as nice as your current setup…

Need to review my comment in light of your later messages :D

Gong makes very sturdy materials, especially in the older lineups (i.e. "Curve"), and quite a bit in the new ones too ("Fluid").

If you want to try it, you could try the "Curve M-t" + a "Fast 40" or a "Curve 39" stabilizer, and any of their masts.

Actually, there is a specific kit, with alu mast, for less than 600€, which is nice to see if you like it.

I hit rocks with the Curve Gong foil (straight on, they were invisible and hit them hard), and had just a little scratch.

They are a bit slower than the 633, which can be plenty fast (although with lots of front foot pressure).
The lineup is immense, but the Curve is cheap, performing, and built to withstand lots of abuse. :thumb:
My next recommendation to you would be a "Fluid", in "L-s" size. Quick and fun too.

Like Azoele Said: Gong is nice!!!! Rocksolid!

Personally I would Go crayzy hitting a Rock with a 500 Euro Sabfoil Wing!

For Gong Sizes: beeing only 70-75 kg I can not give advice. But I would trust Azoele 100percent regarding Sizes. I got great advice from him!!👍

Shipping to Bonaire , do not know.....

(Disclaimer, Other Brands for Sure are great, but personally choose Gong and stayed with them,)

Just bought again … a discount 91 ones + 633 front wing 1300 Canadian dollar new
It is a scent price for the foil
And not that much different from an all carbon gong

Gongs should be robust for sur but they don’t have a very high performance foil ?

Having said that I would be more than glad to try 633 or 799
Should be more mid aspect faster and turny

For gong, the company advised me for my characteristics
A fluid LS with a pro stab and a Carbon mast
Wotch was around 1200 euros with transportation
