Water inside strut?

Postby nEwSkIn » Tue Jun 01, 2004 8:11 pm

I accidentally got a bit of water inside the leading edge strut...

Will this compromise anything in the kite?

I believe if I let the valves open overnight the water will evaporate?

Any tips?

thanx

depends on how much watter. A couple of tablespoons full will evaporate. a few cups of water will affect your kite.

I guess the valve hasnt got a stopper so try this (good for removing sand too). Pump up your kite and put it on its nose so that the tips are up in the air. Get a drinks straw, open the valve, insert the straw until you touch the bottom of the bladder and seal the valve with your fingers so that the air only escapes through the straw. That should push up any water or small debris through the straw. You may need to repeat a couple of times depending on the amount of crap in there.

If you cant insert a straw/pipe in through the valve I suggest hanging the tips of your kite up so that the center doesnt reach the ground (you might need a tree or something) and using the air intake of your pump to draw all the air out of the tube and hopefully the water too. Any amount of water left over after that should eventually evaporate.

hope this helps

As kitedude said just drain it out. Open the valve and hold the kite up so the water drains out. Any left will evaporate after a few pump ups.

Flew foils a while back, and water in them makes a big difference, drain it out.

Blow it up hard, turn it valve down, so the water will get expelled by the air pressure release and leave it to dry.

i'm with macca on this one, inflate, invert and watch it come pissing out.

i'd be weary of sticking a straw in the bladder, the ends of them are actualy quite sharp.
