Peter Lynn invented the twist gip bar which pretty much does the same thing a few years back
This design has virtually nothing in common with the PL twist grip bar.
The PL twist grip bar can not be use with a chicken loop as the front lines
have to be attached to the bar ends (crossed) to put friction on the central
"twist block" which has a fixed harness line built into it.

(I still have one)

1.- The unique feature of this Smart Grip activated by twisting the bar Clock Wise & Counter Clock Wise can be triggered on & off correspondingly.
2.- Provides multiple position locking while in precise control for powered riding.
3.- This Smart Grip has eliminated the feeling of bar pressure associated with sheeting in.
4.- Can be added on to any bar while maintains the original safety characteristics of the kite.
5.- Additional benefit:
After the bar is in locked position anywhere on the chicken loop,
sheeting in with the bar still can be achieved when desired without twisting the bar
None of the prior arts so far on kite bars could provide the above feaure and claims according my Pat search.

It's my dream, maybe one day you never know.
gdorfman wrote: Also, can you twist hard enough one handed to turn on/off? The main benefit to bar locking/friction for me is one handed riding toeside.
It's much harder for sure but you could anytime disengage the Rope Clutch with your other hand.
I designed it such a way so in case in imergency it's visible, reachable and disangagable easily with one hand.
gdorfman wrote:I personally really like the concept of the windwing cc bar b/c there is no engage/disengage. It is all automatic. However, the issue with the friction approach is that it simply won’t work well on a kite with high bar pressure.
You're right it didn't work.
I tried my CC-Bar on the X-Bow but after couple of hours the CL line streched out and jammed up scared the shite out of me.

Thanks for your support.
Wawando wrote:Why not use a microhook instead of this large and heavy gizmo?
Because with this system you could lock the bar wherever you needed to
pluss: after the bar is in locked position anywhere on the chicken loop,
sheeting in with the bar still can be achieved when desired
Wawando wrote: A lock would only be used for very low end and to rest the arms, right?
It's from low to high end so you could ride about the same time as you would do with traditional "C-Type"

is this the piece?
Yes :thumb:

With my system you'll be dancing with smile on your face at the end of the day,
cause no tiredness=priceless!
I could almost bet, sooner or later Cabrinha will release a mech. advantages similar as mine,
because the only way for the X-Bow is the on the fly of adjustable powerlock system
to lock the bar in and out whereever and whenever U needed.

So far I use my custom made CC-Bar for my Rap05...but I will ad this feature to my bar, somehow...will take some work, though.
Never know what I end up with

Great idea DLW!

Do you really need the loop on top of the bar? I would have thought that the rope running through the spinlock would be enough.

Second question... What about putting the spinlock right on top of the bar? I would think that that would make it easier to twist the bar, due to reduced leverage.

Keep up the good work

Or you could use the standard bar with a fixed harness line with a quick release.

Or back to the old idea of a bugee harness line (but with a QR) to
take up some of the bar loading but still allow sheeting adjustments
;)

doc,

thanks for the info. very interesting. was hoping for a quick easy fix to the existing cab bars. can the spinlock be added to the line of a cab bar?

Is this really so much better than a CL265 (Option A)?
http://www.clamcleat.com/kitesurf.htm#Boom

This (I would have thought) can be arranged so it is normally disengaged, Will engage with a twist and can be disengaged with a quick pull on the bar????

Guys,
Rather than trying to find a way to freeze the bar position in order to get rid of the high bar pressure, do you have any idea how we can get a medium bar pessure (I mean between the Nova and the Xbow, with 1.5-1 pulley ratio rather than 2-1)?
I have some ideas but it seems pretty complicated, and would like to hear the tech guys first...

kitesuffer wrote:I suggested the use of this Spinlock cleat for bar lock-off back on the Yahoo newsgroup about 3 or 4 years ago.
As another poster suggested, centreline wear is a big downside to this sort of approach.
I'm glead to hear I'm not alone who had that in mind but appears to be I applied that first for kite bars.
According to experts about lines I talked to, you could probably get about 150 hrs lifetime of the centerline.
I don't think that should be a problem to anyone to replace about 3 feet $3.00 line.
captain pugwash wrote:2 questions if you don't mind :
the distance from where the rope leaves the clutch to the steel retaining loop on the bar is quite long, does this increase significantly the effort required to turn the kite...it looks to be a long lever you're having to overcome.
When doing a hard turn is there a tendency to accidentaly lock on/off. If the clutch and the bar arn't aligned perfectly, the chicken loop will try to straightline its path through the clutch and possibly cause it to click over.
The turning is the same has no effect on the steering IMO.
When the angle is set up right there isn't any accidental on/off,
because of the trigger on pressure requires more than the off mode.
I designed it such a way so in case of imergency it's visible, reachable and disangagable easily with one hand also.

Absolutelly it can be added on to a stock X-Bow Bar but need to find a holding peace which would match of the bar's oval contour and size.
I could make a lost wax mold for it and take it to a foundry,
or make it on my CNC machine which would be expensive.
Unfortunatally I don't have the time right now and what I got works for me.
On my second generation for X-Bow bar you don't need that as you see,
I designed it so the spinlock can be mounted right on.

You're very open minded and I'm sure you could come up with something.
Let us know if you could find something,

DrLightWind
