what was i doing wrong

Postby prep » Mon Feb 20, 2006 1:21 pm

ok so I brought my 10m C02 and was told i should be able to get going in 12/13 kts. so far I have tried 3 times to fly in aroudn 12-14kt winds and had NO luck.

I launch and the kite just hovers around 2:30 in the window and refuses to go up to 12. I try to gently steer it up but it always ended up heading directly downwind of me then crashing.

only think i can think of is the tuning settings on the lines. I always had them set to the very first knot (as in the knot furthest away from the kite).

any ideas? soon as the wind picks up a few more kts im fine but the fact that i cant even launch makes me think im doing something wrong

it also depends on your weight.
But I don't think a 10 starts in 12-13 knots.
More like 16+

Does the kite fly backwards? If so, your steering (outside) lines are too short.
Make them longer or shorten the frontlines.
Good trim is, if you pull the bar and have full power, and it does not start to fly backwards, but shortly before that. Then it is good.

Best solution: ask a good rider on your beach to check your trim.
People will help.

Good luck!

I wouldn't take out a 10m CO2 in under 25mph.

It should fly in 12 knots though.... sure you are measuring it right?

check your lines lenght on your bar.. with the bar fully sheeted (max power) they shouyld be equal if there is a difference adjust the knot on your pre-lines :bye:

.. the front line stretch more, so do this regularly

is it an 05 model or the 04.
o5 is a lot stronger but still ...in twelve knots people above 75kgs need at least 16 meters.
does it only happen when the kite is wet or even when you're launching on the beach?

its and 05 and im only 67kg. my weight isnt really an issue though because i cant even get the kite in the air let alone try to get on the board.

I will have a play around with the lines and eventually buy a bigger kite. thanks :D

i had an aero II 12 that used to do that all the time...until i figured out that i was trying to fly it in too lite of wind. that and also try this: when the kite starts to fly backwards into the powerzone let the bar out quickly. what happens is you sheet in to compensate for the lack of wind and the LE tips flare out, the kite wants to fly backwards. when you let the bar back out the kite regains its proper shape and will shoot forward in the window. when its got some speed and momentum thats the time to try to steer it up into a higher position. :thumb:

sounds like back lines are toshort, stalling kite.

Try next time in light winds, grabing trim strap and pulling it towards you, if kite flys faster and climbs to edge of window you need to adjust your lines.

Should still fly fine in 10knts, might not pullyou on the water though unless you have a big floaty board.

macca is right, you need to tighten up front line, or loosen back. when your kite stalls try pushing the bar forward. I see to meany people over sheeting (over powering the kite) in light winds. only pull the bar enough to steer the kite.
good luck
