Pensecola Florida or South Padre Texas in February

Postby XtremeBigAir.com » Tue Nov 14, 2006 7:40 pm

Can some one help me out? I am thinking of heading out to either Pensecola Florida or South Padre, Texas in February. Which place would have consistant wind during that month and warmer?

Thanks,
Kinsley

there are a lot of recent threads on SPI. Feb is still frontal driven meaning a weekly cycle of south then north winds with a possible lull in between.

It's probably the best spot in the US to be in Feb. From my trips to FL, the north winds are weaker and sometimes there is no ridable south wind preceding the front. Maybe 1/7 days for FL ridable vs. 4/7 for TX. But I've never lived in FL so have only random visits to judge by.

But personally, if I was to get on a plane in Feb, I'd keep going south for the Caribbean... Or wait until spring when SPI is more like 6/7.

Kinsley...

Hey, why not come to Mammoth and snowkite in February? No shortage of wind in February!

Hope you guys get good winds and have a safe trip next month.

Thanks so much Eduardo! Usually January and February are dead wind months here at Pismo beach so I usually go somewhere warmer and windy.
Our windy months are March through June; therefore, we want to check out some places where I haven't kited during February.

Hey Kinsley - Pensacola is not what I would consider a kite destination. You're more than welcome to ride here, but in Feb. you're looking at cold water and no guarantee of wind.

Don't get me wrong, we have some amazing riding spots, but things are really quiet in the winter. And our waves can't hold a candle to what you have on the west coast.

A better time to come would be late march- warmer water/air and the college girls on spring break are here.

Beacause Corpus has stronger wind than SPI. I really believe this, as the thermal winds seem to work better. Been skunked at SPI several times, then called the Corpus Christi airport wind line to see that it was windy in Corpus. This was back when I thought SPI was better for wind.

I like SPI's semi-tropical island feel better, but like the variety of riding locations and restaurants in Corpus better (and proximity to Houston).

I absolutely love SPI, but think Corpus is a better riding venue. Just my honest opinion.

For the traveling rider who wants every day to be good, March - May is really reliable on SPI.
