Where the hell did 'quiver' come from ???

Postby md01 » Tue Dec 19, 2006 8:11 pm

...so, here I am about to order a new 'quiver' and I'm thinking to myself "who on earth started calling it a 'quiver'?"

Quiver? Quiver of arrows maybe, but correct me if I'm wrong, weren't these all the same size? Did Robin Hood carry round different sized arrows to use on different sized animals? No.

Do golfers carry around a 'quiver' of golf clubs? No.

If you have more than one car, is that a quiver? No.

Is it because you quiver excitedly at the thought of more than one kite? (possibly)

What's it all about?

Just wondering...

...and if anyone asks, I'm buying a new SET of kites to replace my old ones.

:-?

Its a Hebrew word and refers to store of weapons, why this is applied to kites I do not know.

Maybe because it sounds better than box or bag?

Yeah sailboarding, which is funny because allot of kiters try to separate them selfs from windsurfers

You could call it an arsenal

Not sure if I've ever used quiver for describing my boards before? For the windsurf sails and masts, yeah, but not for the boards?

But type in google quiver and look up images. The first non bow & arrow related image is the following.....

... so Rodan's Wings deserves a metal!! :D

It's called a quiver because of the effect it has on the bodaciously beautiful, easily impressed beach bunnies.... it makes them "all a' quiver". The more kites you have, the bigger the quiver...

To support Rolan's Wings I recall quiver being used for surfboards as a 10 to teens year old growing up in Hawaii in the late 60s early 70s. That's before wind surfing hit big in Euroland.

...based on that photo of the surfboards, I clearly need more kites before I call it a quiver!!! :D
