Suggestion to kite makers!

Postby kitesurfbali » Wed Jan 31, 2007 4:23 pm

Hello industry people,
we have been talking allot about safety. Is common sense to have bars with different colors left and right same as the color code for the lines.
This is to help people to react faster the correct side.
It does happen that can get confuse after rotation of the bar.

From my experience in riding and many years in teaching most of the time this happen when you are in the water and the bar is submerged.

I would recommend to make also the floater (usually black sausage) in the same color of the bar. This part is usually outside the water or on the surface. Even if you loose the bar or let it go, the bar is submerge but the floater are floating....

I had a student getting drag from a kite and I could not understand just being next to him if he was holding the bar on the right side.

Two thumbs down to the new Airush bar that is all of the same color with the only way to recognize the left to the right is a Red "A" on the left and a small writing (5 cm) "wrong side" on the back.
No way you can see that while in the water.

Bye Jankie :thumb: :o :o

we all want this as safety standard!

left red, black left.
Kook proof!

The floaters idea is also very good! True, that you can see much quicker than the bar once you are in the water!

Thanks
Toby

Ciao Toby,
for me important is that left and right have different color and that you can see it clearly..... bright colors!!

Shame on who don't do that!!!

I can't see all the brands out there to use red and black!

I actually quite like the Cabrinha and North Yellow and Black.

For me the point of the post is about the floater following the color code...
Bye Jankie

Basically, a kitesurfer is doing a type of sailing. Therefore "a boat" in some way. The left needs to be red. The right needs to be green.

Unfortunately, industry people who want to be stylish, or value brand identity more than their clients safety, do not seem to grasp this.

Industry guys, if you insist on black or white or blue or yellow to be cool or because the foam is on sale or whatever, at least keep the left side marked by red. Please.

Naish is good on this -as far as I remember, slingshot is good with leader line and OS handle color, though leader color fades with time. A (red)colored float is a great idea, but i expect the stylists will resist. I think i'm gonna put red tape on my left bar float!

How's this then?

It even says "Wrong way" on the other side of the bar!

(There's no floats as this bar uses pulleys, it's in the 1:1 configuration if anyone's wondering why the pulleys won't do anything)

Red and green

Postby Thorbjorn » Wed Jan 31, 2007 10:58 pm

Ships and aircraft carry a red light on the port side, and a green one on the starboard side

Way not use red color fore left and green on right side like they do on all ships and navigation.

As an old sailor ïÂ

I agree it would be good to have a standard.

It would be valuable to have input from red/green colourblind people though. I don't know anything about it but I speculate that they might prefer solid black on the right and red on the left?

eclipse has red on left and black on right.. and on the back of the bar there is a BIG NO in white. to know that you have the bar backwards...

just my 2 cents
