Nobile XTR vs. Spleene RIP 39

Postby astralkiter » Fri Jun 12, 2009 11:21 am

Hi guys!

I am thinking about buying a lightwind board which goes very early and is funny to jump at the same time. After reading many of your posts I would prefer the Nobile XTR and Spleene RIP 39 which should be very similar. So in your opinion which one would you recommend? And why?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Klaus

In the next Issue of the UK Kitesurf Magazine they tested the Spleene HT-RIP39 against many other lightwind boards. I am not 100% sure but I think the XTR was in the test too.
We have to wait until the Magazine is released but the Editor already gave me some very positive feedback about the HT-RIP39.
I am not sure whether he minds me posting his feedback so I just pm'd you what he mailed me.

I didnt ride either but I WISH someone post some info on them, Im keen on HP RIP 39 but I had a look at XTR and it sounds really nice besides Im going to Poland in August and could pick it right there- I doubt they are made in Poland though.
It looks that OR might realease awsome light wind board but I dont think I can wait that long.

I ride the 666 Nobile boards and love them. I currently have the 2009 models. I have the 131x40 and the XTR 140x46. The XTR has the IFS pads and straps and they are really comfortable. Since getting the XTR I start every session on this board unless its very windy from the start. I find that it rides very similar to the 131. It flexes at the tips just like the shorter boards which helps when landing jumps etc. I've tried other light wind boards and all they were good for was cruising on flat water. The XTR is up for all the same stuff as the smaller boards, and it's great through choppy water. If you are after a light wind board go for extra width over length as it makes the board easier to control on landings.

I have a '08 XTR 139 and it's a great board for my size (6'0, 185 lbs.) and usual conditions (12 - 24 knots). I can ride it when powered up as well, it cruises upwind. The only thing I would change are the pads and straps which I'm going to do today.

Here is a link to the UK Kitesuf Magazine Test. Unfortunately it is a little short and they didn't seem to get all boards in time for the test so they could only compare 4boards.

Can somebody else post his experience with this 2 boards (XTR or RIP 39)? I have read that for going upwind with the RIP it is necessary to put your weight continiously on your behind leg to have the grip in the water, is this true? That sounds not really confortable..

The last time I went in the kite store next to my house they recommended me the North Sky Pro (138x42). Could this be an alternative to the a.m. boards? Or is the lightwind performance not comparable?

Klaus

Hi Klaus,
I think you are confusing yourself more and more. The HT-RIP39 does not need any special way of riding it or to go upwind.
My best tip is to get in touch with Spleene Germany and see where they have the next demo.
Then you can try the board and make your own judgement.
Forums and/or rider reviews can only give you a very limited and personal point of view and really aren't all that helpful.
