I finally had a chance to take the 13 m after talking to Eric about the kite. I shortened the rear bridle by about 8 cm. pet his recommendation and boy did it make a difference. The kite had so much power, it was pulling like a truck at about 16-18 mph. :thumb: . It didn't exhibit any crazy behavior it flew like a charm. I have to say I really like this kite now.
I think I'll extend the rear bridle by about 2 cm to see if it will make a lot of difference as I thought it had a bit too much power.

hey Franz,

i think maybe the original line lengths were out . . . otherwise just shortening the rear would have made the kite oversheet . . .

what do you think about the rippers v's the Ovandos . . .

do you have a preference . . .

i have both 7m and 9m Ovandos and older 9m, 8m and 6m Rippers . . . so curious to know your thoughts . . .

Max, my 2 cents.
I have both Ripper and Ovando. To me they are they are 2 completely different kites with opposite characteristics. I use the Ovando in light winds and the Ripper when it is strong or gusty wind.

The funny thing is that when I get overpowered on my 9M ovando I rig my 9M Ripper :-), between the two I cover 12 to 30 knots. If I was not a gear junky,... those would be my only kites ;-).
Now Eric build a 7M Ripper so I guess the wallet comes out again.

Panchito, I made the mistake of taking the 13 in to strong winds and streched my rear briddle so I needed made the same mod to my 13, I just shortened the rear spectra briddle where you have the pulley by 6 cm this shortened the overall V briddle lenght by 3cm. By making the mod at the kite I keep my bars in trim for my other kites. The easyest way to do this is to just undo the knot at the small ring and move the stopper knot so 6cm of line sticks out.

I contacted EH about this mod, they told me it was recommended to one customer for a 13M that was taken out in extreme conditions. The rear bridle had stretched and this mod just shortened the overall length of that rear bridle to make up for that stretch.

hi guys,

I have been reading this long thread and got some really good suggestions!
thanks!

Could anybody help me out...

I ride an EH eze 13m and an Ovando 9m, I wand to get a smaller high wind / snow kite and I 'm indecise between the Ovando 7m and the Rippehr 9m v5 2009. Which one would you pick?

Keep in mind that here in Finland it's mainly light winds, or gusty but seldom above 30kn.
I have a light wind door / board and an eclipse 133x39.

I'm 92kg and with the Ovando 9m I ride from 14kn and around 26kn it becomes a bit hairy due to the gusts. I use the eze when I need my fix in light wind and I think it's a monster, sooo much power & constant pull!

Would an Ovando 5m is too small?

Would an Ovando 11m could compare with the eze13m?

Good winds
Lorenzo

Lorenzo,

I would keep the 13M eze there is just nothing better out there for the light wind days. Would be better to get a larger flatter board for that 9M Ovyou have, you could probably get out in a lot lighter winds.

About the Ripper, I can not say much about the 7M because I do not have one, (yet ;-) ), but I do have both Ovando and Ripper in 9M, they are my most used kites for me. When I get to wired on my Ovando 9M or when the wind is bad gusty I use my Ripper. Between the two kites I cover 13 to 35 knots. I am 89 kg right now.. hope to loose some soon :-)...

The 5M Ovando I have heard is more for kids and light riders.

M
