Best kite for 30-45 knots?

Postby skiyak777 » Tue Jun 15, 2010 6:20 pm

Been flying Switchblades and Nomads (7 and 9 M, which I've had out up to 35 knots gusting to 40) but I'm looking to get a smaller kite for high winds/waves. Anyone have a recommendation for a kite for 30-45 knots that isn't excessively twitchy? 5.5 M Nomad? 4M Switchblade? 5 M Bunny? Something else?

For super high wind riding I choose not use trust pullies and bridles even tho they might make the ride easier because of the huge consequences if the tip getting wrapped, pullies jammed sending the kite into a deathloop.

I trust a cleatable 5th line way more in crazy conditions.

Also short lines make for a much more realxed high wind session.

In theory you should have way more kite sizes in small kites as the variation of pull force when it gets windy is way more.

If your comfy with em, small C kites are the bomb in high winds.

I have a 6m diablo that is killer in big winds. Super fun when everyone else is pushing the limits of their flat 7-9m kites and your comfy as can be in the gnarliest of gusts. The tiny diablo is not very grunty but virtually unlimited top end. No pullies and a 5th line is nice in crazy weather.

I say go for the bunny, but I'm partial cause I fly Wainmans and plan on getting a 7m next year for the 25+ days.

Wainman Hawaii Bunny 5m is pretty sick in high winds! Been thinking about getting one for the really strong days.

I'd go for a takoon furia 7m.
Explosive like a C kite, but twice the windrange :thumb:
