Trust me, Its the cheap stuff from China or Friends, The finbox in question is the side finbox, I have dozens of pictures, pictures of the fins without a scrach, all that is past now, my problem now is how to correctly fix it with surfboard repair labor.
Some say I have to remove the box completely.
Some say I cannot use the same box because it was sanded etc etc...
I removed part of the deck to check for cracs and didnt find any.
There is one suspition I need to check: maybe the finbox has a leak and the water that got inside was the responsible for the whole finbox area to soften.

Had quality problems also with fin and fin boxes,on my race board Airush Sector purchased at the beggining of summer...again Repaired Myself.
Everyday i hate more this industry and feel they're scamming us with china cheappy quality products (specially directional boards) supossed to be designed to last. :nono:[/quote]

Same problem here, the fins of the sector, but was offered by Airush to get a quote and have it repaired, The fins were cutting into the finboxes and the bottom of the board, problem is that the sharp edges were cutting ito the board, as these were left too long and by tighthening the screws from the top ...the fins were drawn into the board, once the pressure came on them while riding the board they digged in into the board and finboxes.

Can you tell me how you repaired it? maybe pictures?
Thx

I got the board some 3 weeks ago from the dealer Alexandre Cunha in Brazil.
This afternoon I think I got the facts correctly.
I removed part pf the rear deck and there were no cracs, then I put soap bubles and the board in the sun and noticed that a small delamination occured between the plastic finbox and the glass layer, causing water to enter and weakening the region. Since it was covered by the deck and leaked in the hole of the screw it was hard to find quickly. Also, normal surfboard repair doesn't know how to deal with the bamboo, so I will be asking for warranty. There seems to be a painting in this region further difficulting diagnosting the problem.

this also shows its the front of the box that is damaged. would be pretty hard to damage a finbox that way. I'm sure SS willl take care of you.

Kitelet,

Nice job, but, did you build in new finboxes into the board?

Aah now I see, you just painted it where you rrepaired right?

Airush sent me some shimms to attach at the base of the fins, so they would not being pulled into the bottom of the baord anymore..

Look at my kind of damage, I think just taking some material away from the bottom of the profile of the fin would do a better job.
This way the front and back ,finprofile that touches the boards bottom, which is very sharp will not being pulled into the board?
What do you think? ( At the moment I am using the shimms glued at the base of the finfoot that goes into the finbox.

Frank
