Does a knot in the kite line really half its strength?

& a LOT more tension for the front lines.

Think about a transition jump with a Kite-Loop ---
the rear lines see None of those extra G's.

I've had one in steering kinda been avoiding ....

I bet you have less of a chance of breaking it compared to a center line but if a steering line does break, it is never very pretty....

It takes less than 5 minutes to tap it out with a hammer, there is literally no reason to leave the knot in.

Hmm, does this affect leashes also since they're so much thicker? I've got a bunch of knots tied in mine because it dangled too much, but I would hate to miss a handlepass and have the kite fly away because I knotted my leash.

Sure you can snap your leash this way. What are these leashes rated at, I think mine is 1500 pounds? If you drop the bar in the air and fall to the end of your leash good chance it will snap if instead of 1500 pounds it breaks less than half, maybe 500 pounds.

If on the other hand your leash is rated at 5,000 pounds, knot it all you want.

Hi everyone. I see you all agree that a knot will affect the strength of the line. How about the effect on the performance? Will a couple of very small knots on a back line affect the performance of the kite?

I have done several tests using Q_Power line (the best line out there) and a pulley.

A normal know (granny knot) really decreases line strength and I could snap the knotted line easily with the aid of the pulley. I'd say 50-60% is a good guess.

A figure of 8 knot is much better and I was unable to snap the line.

I found this thread because I also found a knot in the center lines of my kite, which I only used once and the knot was already there (new lines that came with a used kite)

I tried everything you guys described here, but nothing worked for me, that thing was tight.

At the end I tried something that worked without applying much force to the know. I submerged the knot in WD40 for about one hour (longer might be better). After that the knot swelled and I could use my fingernails to untie it.

Just my 2 cents.
