The Marsala PKRA freestyle registration took place today with 47 men and 18 women registering for the event. The conditions have been very good the past few days; riders have been riding their 9 to 13 m kites on the flat-water lagoons of Marsala. All the top riders are here for the third stop of the season and many new faces are here for a chance to get a good result on the PKRA and make a name for themselves. The skippers meeting will be at 10am and the start of the trials at 11am.

The main event has 24 spots available for men and 12 women, so trials will have to be run. The trials for men and women will be run in a dingle format so that all competitors will get at least two chances to make it into the main event. The top eight-man and top four women are preceded into the main event. Two wildcards are given to the local organizers for the men and one for the women. This leaves 37 competitors on the men’s side battling for the last 14 spots and 13 women battling for 7 spots into the main event.

Since the last freestyle event in France all the competitors have been training hard for this upcoming event. The first two events of the season set the pace for the top riders and everyone knows what they need to do to win a heat at a PKRA event. Alex Pastor from Spain has been the dominant rider early in the season winning the first two events, and Gisela and Karolina have each won one. Top riders like Alberto Rondina from Italy have been watching young competitors like Liam Whaley and Christophe Tack move up in the rankings.

With the perfect freestyle kiting conditions throughout the week the kite surfing level should be extremely high and many 317’s, back mobe 5’s, Slim 7’s and some of the most difficult tricks in kite surfing should be landed this week. Make sure you follow the livestream to see all the latest moves follow us on Facebook and twitter for up-to-the-minute information.
