Not an expert at unhook, but I believe that the slack comes right after you pop off the water. No wind here either for about two months now. driving me crazy.

Slack certainly helps in getting the bar toward your hip. You can of course pull your hips (and the rest of your body) toward your bar - which requires much more effort!.
Technique has quite a lot to play in generating slack in the first place, but generally a freestyle 'C' will always slack a hell of a lot more than a freeride floaty boosty kite :)

It really depends on what you are doing. Baring off wind while using a wave as a kicker you can use momentum to get to your hip. Popping you need to be pulling to get slack. Plus it depends on the kite, wind, and tech. to get good slack. Plus slack is only needed as you pass. You need tension to pull against so it has to be timed just right.

Slack depends on timing and pop, but the reason you need to pull your bar to your hip is so you can rotate. For instance, in a slim chance you are rotating in an s-bend, then you pull the bar towards the hip -- you don't actually have to pull it in close at all, the important thing is when you pull in that direction it halts your spin and sends you rotating in the other direction. At this point, you drop down and for the slim chance that's when you can easily pass the bar. Other moves pull towards the hip at different times, but they all have in common one thing, the reason you pull the bar towards your hip is so you can get some rotation. If you never pull the bar all that happens is you do some s bends.

Think about this one : If you have so much slack in your lines you can pull the bar and nothing happens, there is no resistance, how on earth can you pull on the bar to stop the s-bend and go the other way in a slim chance.

So if you do a proper railey in flat water without pulling the bar, cause don't need to pass, by thejoe you don't have almost slack or you have a lot more slack if you pulling, by edt instead you have same slack but if don't pull you can't rotate. Everyone seems to be agree that you have to pull when The kite is pulling.

The real question is:how do you know your load and pop is perfect and you don't need to work anymore on it but concentrate on The "Air part" of The tricks?

At The opposite, if you can't land a trick all the time ( for me happens with The blindjudge and 313 while I can land all sort of basic tricks blind or wrapped ) you Start to think to all possibile reason...first of all I always thought at load and pop as major and unique mistake about passing The bar in The air, but I Start to change idea...

Just check The forecast for The next week: another one with out Wind, need to kite.
