How to rig the kite for unhooked??

Postby jats2k9 » Fri Oct 25, 2013 4:15 pm

For the unhooked riders out there. Please, teach me how should I rig the kite and what behavior to expect from the kite. I dont have anyone on my spot that I could ask any soon, and I'm ready to start practicing for wakestyle.

rig as usual. could be that u will need to give a bit of depower before un-hook to prevent back stall

don´t over think it too much, the kite will behave as ~usual, just un-hook, keep the kite low and go. if too much pull to handle, release the edge, ride down-wind a bit and hook in again. repeat from the start and have fun

leash suicide

Cheers, good post :thumb: I'm going to attempt my 1st unhooked raley tomorrow... Can I expect to fly like superman then get dragged with the kite dipping in the power zone? Really looking forward to trying some unhooked tricks!

Might be good to put your steering lines on the inside settings of your bar if you can adjust. Make sure also not to accidentally steer the kite up high once you unhook. I thought it was fun the first few times I Raley'd but if you keep your kite low where it should be, it helps whip your feet up high above your head.

I found it helped to rig a size smaller when first learning to ride unhooked. If it is a good kite, it will be more efficient when riding fixed.

nice diagram

no reason to recommend leashing suicide (depower attachment point)

get good at disabling and resetting. it is not a big deal.

not leashing to a disable point means that if you get a line tangle on bar or kite or your kite become out of control for some other reason, your only option is to ride it out and fix it, or release leash and lose kite. not a good plan.

it helps to do more than listen just a few guys telling you how to depower the kite and leash. Do yourself a favor and buy progression advanced, it goes over things like how to ride downwind before you unhook, how the kite should behave when it's trimmed properly all that stuff, the $40 or so is a worthwhile investment, especially if it saves you some sore ribs.
