Anyways, mboncalo. Help you make some selections. Think a bit about what you are looking for in a kite. It might be hard since you have no experience, but I would assume easy to use and forgiving would be pretty high on the list.

I have most experience with Naish Ride on that list, and it is great for anything from beginners to more advanced riders. Fun and light kite. It also has an option to put on light wind relaunch system...to make it even easier to relaunch. I've never needed it though.

Thank you @switchkites I know you're well intended but the price of your kite+bar is to high for an unknown kite, for me at least, that has no feedback from no one but you.

Hi @tautologies, i've mentioned in the first post
good handling/relaunch kite with a decent grunt and wind range
,

I want a kite that can be handled by a beginner and to keep it for a few years.
Naish Ride is obviously receiving good feedback in this topic, thanks.

Yes sorry I should have been a bit more specific. What type of riding. Ride is definitely grunty with a good gust handling. I ride at a really gusty spot, and I'd say Naish Ride are probably 30% of the kites there. :-)

Great wave kite.

Dude... have a read: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2382668&hilit=switch+labs
Lots of positive feedback from the community and lots of Q&A about their products. Yes, a few challenges from a couple guys on their bars, but that was their old bar and the dude had some off 200+ sessions on the same lines and an advanced aggressive rider turning fast and hard. Those will wear over time. Like brake pads on a car.

Im not a rep nor advocate: In fact, I have a quiver of switchblades and I didn't even recommend those due to your sensitivity on price! As a beginner, you will notice a nominal difference on all those kites you listed out.

I would avoid buying used... never know what that bladder and LE has been through. Therefore, if you are going to buy new, I merely recommended Switch because of the good feedback (per the link above) and their direct to customer pricing and dist model. Their prices new on 2014 stuff is significantly lower than new gear from 2011/2012, etc. You seem to be very cost orientated.

Otherwise, I would say get a 2013 Cab Switchblade on closeout. But that would be "way too expensive" for you.

New 2014 12m Switch Nitro v3 w/bar: $1000 or so (USD)
New 2014 12m Cabrinha SB w/bar: $2100 or so (USD +/- $100)
New 2013 12m Cabrinha SB w/bar: $1600 or so (USD +/- $100)

For someone hung up on cost, looking for a new kite that is good for beginner, easy re-launch, good depower, and good range... that's a no brainer right there to me.

I have to say that Switch is a very descent deal. I ride Method V2 for waves. Excellent fabrication and overall conception. Very good price. In your position I would go to the Nitro V3, but as I am in France , i would also be tempted by a Gong SFS kite. I tried the 12m for one week, and it's just the definition of an all-round kite, stable, easy relaunch, goo upwind, good lift, medium bar pressure, very well made etc...
For sure no 5th line and no specialised kite.
My 2 cents.

As for me, I've owned Ozone edge 15 and Zephyr 17, Cabrinha crossbow 12 and 18, Liquid Force Havoc 16 and session 12, Ocean Rodeo rise 13, Flysurfer 21, Latitude 10, and Now Switch nitro 8, 10, 12, 14, 16.
I am strictly a freerider. Flat water only. At 52, I don't need to beat up on my body any more than I have to.
I like to boost, hang, and do long sessions on flat water.
Having ridden and owned kites from the "top companies" I can tell you IMHO that it is a waste of money for me to spend $2,250 on a single Ozone 15m complete, when I can get an 8, 12, and 16 nitro, plus a bar for the same money. Instant quiver.
I don't know what your criteria for kites are but by your tone I'd guess you've never seen Switch likes up close.
I live and ride in Tampa but make it to Islamorada often. I'd be happy to let you check out and ride any of my kites so you can then comment from personal experience.
I am a "Team Rider" for Switch but am no more invested in pimping Switch than when I was riding and loving my Ozone Edge 15m. It's just that I don't take the best care of my gear and two years is the max I am going to keep it. My edge was pinholed, patched, and leaky in two years..
Switch delivers the performance, boost and hangtime, I enjoy and I can stress less about my investment getting beat up in two years.
You can reach me through the "Team Rider" link. Feel free to hit me up for a test ride. I have every nitro and an extra bar. I think you'll be impressed.

After 14 seasons I'm a north rider through and through now but I have ridden and seen the new nitro up close and I can safely say these kites are extremely well built and fly really well. There is nothing cheap about the construction at all! Infact I was so impressed with this product I bought a switch bar and it's exceptional (except the grip needs softening). It's simple and well engineered.
I just hope they don't follow the likes of Best (although I predict they will) and join the rest of the top line companies with their cost structure. We will have to wait and see if their business model stands up to the test when large volumes are circulating around the globe. It won't take long now. I'm a switch fan but I don't ride them as yet. So I'm neither a team rider nor do I use their kites, so am I plugging switch. Ya bet ya fat ass I am.

I don't get why/how people have sooooo much trouble with 5th lines. It's only a really a minor thing to think about when you're walking out your lines, it's not going to get tangled flying, and if you got into a wave relaunch situation that it's going to tangle the 5th, 4 lines will also tangle.
yes, but i couldn't find a good deal for North Rebel and a new one is too expensive
More desirable kite = more expensive

I used the Envy 12m to start out (180lbs 6') on 140 Twins. Great kite. I now have Naish and Blade kites in my quiver as well but the Envy is the most comfortable kite I have flown so far.

The 2014 model looks great too with the pulleys gone.

Sorry, you're right about my profile, I'm about 70Kgs, 1,75m. I don't plan to use this kite in my country, because at Black Sea we have winds around 10 -15 knots, for example this summer i'll go to Lefkada were i heard winds blow at 15-25 knots.
Also VAT is included in the prices i've mentioned and an 2014 kite would reach prices of around 1500 EUR without the bar. Please note that the prices above include the bar which is also pretty expensive.
WHOA!

a 12m kite for a 70 kg rider in 15-25 knots? You are going to be seriously overpowered, especially if you choose a high aspect ratio kite (Nitro/NRG/etc.)

For 15-25 knots, you should be looking at like a 8m or 9m kite tops (for 20 knots avg). 154 lbs is really light to be using a 12m kite in those winds (thats what I use and I weigh 110-115kg) and the higher aspect ratio kites kick like an extra meter or two in addition to needing more work to maneuver around. So forget the Nitros and NRGs imo. As a beginner, taking on that kind of relative horsepower in those winds is going to get you lofted with some serious velocity attached lol. Think superman attached to your kite :P

THat 12m will serve you well in 12 knot winds. Below that its hard to kite no matter what size kite you buy, I would suggest a large board if you want a kite for local use. I would strongly recommend you go with one of the entry level kites (Envy, Vector, Element, etc.) and drop the size if you are buying this for 15-25 knots. For your home country at 10-15 knots, the 12m would work although if you went with something like a 9m you could instead just buy a big lightwind board for home use and a smaller board for your trip (you could prob just rent a board for your trips, a better solution imo) with the same kite all around. For your size, lots of boards can serve as a lightwind option, thinking a Slingshot Glide. THe flotation of the longer sizes will let you get away with a small kite in 10-15 knot winds.

You can get a 2014 Envy with bar and pump for $1,500 shipped (no taxes) in the US. If you have anyone making a trip out here they could pick it up for you pretty easily. ALternatively, do a training trip and get some free lessons - the lower cost, no VAT, and the free lessons will make the financials work. I would not encourage you to attempt to learn without formal lessons - use a trainer kite for a few days then go for pro lessons somewhere with decent instruction.

You can do your trip without gear as most schools will have gear in your size; will give you a chance to test out multiple brands too so you know which one you like best. So DO NOT feel pressured to buy right away, you could just use the schools gear for your trip. The industry will be going on sale the next couple of months as windy season in much of the USA is coming to an end, offering better prices on 2014 models.

So: For local use, the 12m will work with a standard board. A smaller kite, like a 9m, could be made to work with a large lightwind board.

For your trip, a smaller kite is what you want. Either buy a smaller board or better yet, just rent boards at your destination. WHen you first start out, you use different styles and sizes of boards than what you will want long term anyways. Traveling with a board is usually a pain in the neck, the rest is more travel friendly. Finally, tt is commonplace for schools to provide gear for early stage beginners - do your numerous and ugly crashes on THEIR gear not yours. Even if its just for a day or two, do Day 1 and Day 2 on their kites and let them eat the damage. Trust me, its baked into their prices whether you use their gear or not.
