Which wave kites fly deep into the wind window?

Postby GTC » Wed Jun 04, 2014 3:50 pm

Hi all,
I use to ride in onshore wind conditions and need a wave kite (9/10m) that sits deep into the wind window. The kites that I actually ride go quickly to the edge of the window and don't drift so much, so If I do agressive turns and go downwind with a wave they tend to lose steering maneuverability and in some cases they fall out of the sky.
Which wave kites are the best for these conditions?

Thanks in advance :cool2:

The best web site at the moment to give you that information is http://liquidforcekites.com
I like the new Envy and all current and previous Hifi's. Airush used to put that info on their web site but quit. Airush Lithium is like that but it is only a shadow of what Vapor line used to be.

Thanks for your response marlboroughman. I also owned some Vapors back in the day. Awesome kites and much better than many of nowadays current new kites.

Wainman Hawaii Smoke 9m or Punch 10.5m are arguably the best surf kites.
You'd have to mess up pretty bad to have a Wainman Hawaii "hindenberg" on ya.

If you ever come across a surfboard with 3 strap configuration which is next to imposible give it a try in onshore. It goes upwind so much better one tack and you are out of a brake zone ready to shread again. Also much better in the chop outside the zone your front foot makes a contact at the heel and the toes are lifting the nose for lesser wetted surface just like windsurfing. You can ride wider board and still control it.

I have rrd religions and they definitely sit back which makes wave riding easier

Definitely "arguably"! I used to fly Wainmans. It's true that you can make them sit back in the window by changing the bridle settings. I used to think they were quite fast, too. Now I fly BRM Clouds. They don't sit back in the window, but I find they are much better in the waves. They are much faster than the Wainmans, and more powerful, allowing me to downsize. In onshore conditions, the turning speed of the Cloud and the fact that they are impossible to Hindenburg has saved me many times. After getting my Clouds I did try the Wainmans in the waves a few times. It was pretty disappointing.
