Mid to high aspect for cross, cross off wave riding.

So I'm at my location the other day that cranks cross, cross off.

It's moderate wind. So I fire up my 10m ozone edge and give it a whirl. You know what it was damn good. Cranked upwind well, boosted over minster white wash well. The cross off nature of the wind ment riding a tight upwind angle on the wave face to meet the pocket before turning downwind. That was also sweet. Then riding down the line wasn't an issue other.

All and all it was a good experience. It got me thinking you don't need low aspect wave kites for this angle.

That's too funny. I was just saying the exact same thing two days ago. My Edge is awesome in smaller waves. Unless you are 100% on the face of the wave and need a quick pivoting kite I think would rather be on my Edge. It rips upwind especially if you pop off a wave and float way down wind then you can be back at the same place on one tack. I usually can do 2-3 jumps on a tack and be back at the same place not going either upwind or down. Plus rocks when you want to just pop over a messy wave front. Beats a wave kite hands down. Also drifts very well as it is designed to race downwind as well. Only downside is not rocket ship like pivoting which just takes a fraction of a sec more time. I was thinking of trying on 22m as well as I always just use 27m.

Sweet! That looks like a spot where you could have a ton of fun - and I bet you did

Anyhow, yeah, a nice thing about cross-off wind is how you can have the kite hanging slightly behind the wave or right over the wave - but you don't want it hanging too far behind the wave or you end up having to edge to much against the kite when you ride the wave (and worst case you actually get pulled over the shoulder). So, a high-aspect kite that sits further forward in the wind window can be great in that case. And you do end up catching a lot more waves, because of how quickly you can get back to the starting point again.

Yeah I think cross off is my favourite wind angle for waves. If you disregard the fact that you loose your kite if the shit hits the fan. It gives you clean faces downwind and its real easy to get back to the line up. Usually one tack.

Yeas that is a fantastic spot. All be it scary as hell.
