Well i have an unusual problem..... One would suggest a first world problem.
My kites are just lasting too long..... I really want newer kites, but just can't justify the purchase when my old kites are still in good condition.
I think its a combination of a 5 kite quiver, launching on grass most the time and very rearly putting them through the rinse cycle.
My quiver age looks like this
12m 2014 (foil)
13m 2012
10m 2013
8m 2012
6m 2012
Who else is getting good millage from their kites?

That's not old!
Half the locals around our way only start with a kite that's already 3-4 years old

I tend to agree that 2012 kites are not old... I have a 4-quiver kites ranging from 2009 to 2011 and plan to build a new quiver starting this year and one kite per year will hopefully do the trick!!! My kit (kites & bars) is holding all right but definitely starts to show signs of abuse which is normal after all these years... Frequent maintenance helps for sure...

I still have some 08 warroos I use for teaching people that are still holding up fine, with the exception of fixing a couple small pinholes here and there but nothing major. My 2012 fuel crashed into a bush snowkiting in over 20 mph and somehow didn't get torn and just stayed there until I ran too it. lol kites are built strong, just get new kites cause you want something new anyways, never hurts to try new models.
I've found the bar/lines end up wearing out before the kites.

2007 14m Torch
2010 12m Torch
2007 10m Torch
2008 8m Torch
2009 6m Torch
I would change them if I could find a better kite, but I can't

I guess too we need some usage data.
I kite on average a couple of times a week year round. So 100+ sessions per year.
So a person who only kite at lot less will have kites that last a lot longer and inversly people who kite more in theory should rip through kites fast.
We could probably calculate a formula for expected kite age.......
How many sessions does a kite last before it expires?
Lets say 100 sessions.
Based on that the formula would be.
expected kite age = 100/(sessions per year/number of kites in quiver)
Based on that my kites should last 5 years each.

assuming equal usage across all sizes which is never the case.

Or you could apply this formula per kite
expected kite age = 100/ sessions per year
PS I'm expecting someone like supa to bust out some actual hard data on how many sessions their kites last. Then we apply that to the formula for more accurate calculation.
