Anyone seen any video? I know they had no internet connection down in La Ventana, but I though there would be some video posted once everyone returned home
Someone had a really great drone that got good footage. I know that Ozone plans to use some of it in promotional material.
I can't resist posting a shot of one of the races.. I believe that picture credit is thanks to my friend Layne M.
15.8 knots VMG upwind in 8-10 knots of wind. 17.9 knots at 28 degrees to the wind
I hope somebody if filming this so we can watch it later!
sorry, what?!
He is going 28 degrees into the wind at 15.8 knots in 8-10 knots of wind...
That doesn't even compute in my brain!
This is Nico:
That's better than any other water sail-craft upwind, for comparison AC72 polars left to right from races with low (12-14kts), medium (16-17kts) and higher winds (17-20kts):
I think generally the AC Cup cats are a bit higher upwind with similar speeds to kite foils.
Downwind kite foils are lower and a bit faster.
Gybes and tacks we are a lot faster than any other craft out there.
SEE YAA
It will be interesting to see what VMGs will be posted in the motherland of kite racing- The Bay of San Fran. 20+ knots winds will see some crazy data..
Its the opposite actually.
kites are a bit higher than the AC boats upwind in all conditions.
kites seem to be a bit deeper in a very limited range from about 10 to 14knots downwind. seems like the AC's reach a bit in those winds still super fast.
Once it gets just a bit windier say goodbye because those AC's will run deep and faster than what you can imagine.

Here is some video from day 1 of the event. Check out the huge tangle during the start of race 2.
