Hi,

Yes. It works. Make sure you do a couple of dry runs on the beach in light winds. Make sure you know what you are doing. On the water things can happen very quickly and it helps if you have your process down and you can trust your bar preparation 100%. The proper preparation of the Kite and bar is the most important part. If you get it wrong, you will drown your kite.

Good luck.

If you only lightly inflate the vent area, should things go pear shape, pulling on any line will kill the kite on the water. But having said that more preinflation makes it some what easier. I don't see why the chrono2 would be much different than any other foil, the high AR would be more difficult than a low one for sure.

Thanks for the tips .
So should I inflate the center first with the tips rolled ?
Then walk in the water lay the kite on its back and let it drift while I unwind the lines ?
Is this what you would do ?

I thought of leaving the kite on a floating device first (small zodiac ) , then unrolling the lines and tying them to a mooring and then get to the kite , use a small electric pump to preinflate the middle of the kite with the tips rolled up , take the kite off the floating device , lay the kite on the water this way and walk to the bar and launch . Could it be a good way ? is there something wrong that I miss here ?
I'm getting ready to give a drift launch a try this week but I want to put all the chances on my side . So any more tips here are the most welcome .

Mistakes I Made.
Be careful not to fill the kite too much (inflator) while you are away from the bar especially if the bar is fixed to a stationary point, it could take off and or bow-tie. I had a pulse (different animal) fill and take off before I could get the lines unwrapped. The best advise is to practice in very shallow water until it becomes second nature. Be careful of the lines in deep water all the bridles sink and go unseen so always cross around to the rear of the kite. I did not have a beach launch so I found putting the kite away when I finished kiting to be the biggest problem. Enjoy

Sparkin larkin , your advices are very appreciated . :thumb:
At this time of the year , my launch area is shallow so it should help. I'm going to practice the entire process in a field tomorrow and see how it goes.

The lake should be frozen soon and it is going to be so easy and dry....

That is not how I would do it. If you can stand you can easily launch or packdown the whole kite on the water. Just don't over inflate the kite. You only need enough air in the vent area that they can take air in with front line tension. Fill the kite while it is still part rolled. Lay it out perpendicular to the wind. you can control its drift with a bit of line tension left or right, otherwise use slack lines.

I commented directly to youtube on video's comment field and uploader has removed the comment..

Let's put it here then where he cannot delete comment.

In my opinion the video method for launching is dangerous. They tie down kite to boat by the chicken loop not via brakeline between steering lines. Then they go among lines/bridles to open up the kite which could launch because anchor in the boat.

I continued with instructions how to do it better, the FS way. Attach chicken loop to your harness. Go to water, open up the kite and pre-inflate it a bit. Put kite into taco position and let it drift downwind. Unwind lines from the bar as kite drifts and when all lines unwinded then launch the kite via front lines..

What do you mean by Taco it ? leave it half rolled ?

Also , how would you land it ?
