If this was a genuine carafino would it be good for a beginner?

Yes, some firends here were lucky and got their Carafino foils. I have ridden them. They work fine as an entry level foil.
I would be very careful about ordering with this latest offer though.
CG
EDIT: I should add that everyone here who bought these foils (I think there were six) has sold them and moved onto higher performance ones. I suggest that unless you are really on a budget, it is worthwhile to just get a real performance product such as Spotz, Taaroa, Alpine...

Yes, or go for one of the new aluminum foils if budget is a problem. I own a Taaroa 2 and had a go on the Zeeko aluminum foil (799 euros) and was really impressed on how easy it was while having very good performance.

I wonder how this supplier is going to move 96 sets that they still have in stock. If price drops I'm in for one, as it is definitely better value than alum (the whole package is 4kg!). As for the shape aesthetics, it is very subjective. I would speculate that due to curved mast offset back it is an efficient rudder.
P.S. glossy or matte -- what has less resistance in water?

Sad to see you have to go as cheap as possible but cheapest is not always the best value. especially with this one. Good luck with parts, warranty or upgrades, that is if it is ever delivered...
