Recently I have back pain after sessions, first I experienced it only after overpowered sessions but now it hurts after a normal session as well
I have a mystic warrior 3 in its 3rd or 4th season and wonder if the harness got old and soft or is it me?
I tried a couple of new harnesses on and I like the ion apex the most, but demo is not available here so I would really appreciate some feedback.
Or as my back will get worse anyway should I go for an ion b2 boardshort harness? I imagine that puts a lot less pressure on my lower back but not sure if its good for unhooked riding... and I would have to order it from abroad so no way to try before buy...

Try a good fit RideEngine.
Dakine C2 has the same concept but I have never tried that one

I would have your back checked by a doctor, you never know what it could be and you may be very sorry for years and years if you overlook something serious.
For back pain, Ion B2 harness or equivalent (Dakine and Naish have similar models). I don't think anything comes close.

I'm 57. Have ridden with a Fusion seat since I started kiting in '04. Never any back pain and I can ride a 3+ hour session in waves. I also have the board short style.
Not sure why a waist vs. seat would make a difference unhooking. You do give up flexibility however. Can't bend at the waist as well.
Good Luck!

14 years I had the same problem...when powered up (back then kites really had power!) I had pain, to a point where I could not get my body up anymore. I thought I had to stop kiting...
here I am, 14 years later, riding a lot with a big powered kite....why? now I am riding a seat harness!
Try it and see yourself.
Not sure about the boardshorts harness...if you like to ride more powered, I think it can hurt in other areas then, due to missing support. But...try if you can!
Maybe just buy cheap, used harness to try it out...then sell again what is not good for you. You won't loose much money by doing that. No pain is worth it!
Good luck!

I totally agree with the prior posters recommending a seat harness if you have back pain. It's intuitive. Think about the position of the spreader bar hook on seat vs waist harnesses. A seat harness puts the hook (kite's pull) at your body's natural pivot point, as opposed to above it, so stresses your back much less than a waist harness. Get a good quality seat harness (not board-shorts harness) and, at the very least, rotate a seat harness with your waist harness.
And, for the long term, to eliminate back pain, strengthen your core and particularly your abdominal muscles (do crunches, planks, etc.).

Rotate is the way to go. There isn't a waist harness on the planet that can match the support, and all around comfort of a good seat harness.

One more vote for abdominal muscles.
My experience is different here. I had to switch to seat harness a bit more than 1 year ago because of multiple broken ribs and my back problems started this winter. It might not be related though. I still use the waist harness for strapless, totally impossible to send a proper gybe in a seat harness ! Anyway, I am taking good care of my back myself with some simple stretching exercises and abdo reinforcement. I'm 42.
