Look at Boeing 787 raked tips. Windsurfing fins used raked tips since a long time.

I'm of the opinion that someone needs to get all these wings into a water tunnel (?) and get some hard data on performance, cos there's a lot of cobbling going on--forward swept, straight, angled, cranked LE; gull wings; winglets...

its all about Reynolds Numbers. A 20m Glider is not a foil. It's more a loop di loop design feature.

And imagine you ever fall on a winglet.

yes falling on your "sword" with winglets could be bad.

Maybe the winglet could offer some protection though? Could be curled back towards the center.

I agree - at least for flat water it would apply well and they could save a lot of development time.

It will still require feedback from riders, because of the dynamic effects, ventilation, turning, aeration, waves etc to fully refine them, but there is bound to be a lot of the work which can be done on the basics.

Windsurf fins have reached the level where it is mostly about rider feedback, as the basics are known and there is too much from the board and water surface affecting the performance.

Aren't fins in general,,,, windsurfing or surfing mostly educated guess work, well that and fashion.... My current ones have visible carbon AND bamboo!

Anyway, I remember all kinds of awesomely weird windsurfing finds like the football fin and the slotted fins. Best ones I ever had were the simple ones.

Race and speed fins certainly all evolved to super simple designs.

I bet we will eventually arrive at very simple looking hydrofoils too, but not before we try a lot of weird ass stuff.
