After much work and dedication, the World Kiteboarding League is pleased to announce that the first event of the year will be held from the 12th to the 17th of July in Cabarete, Dominican Republic.

Through the dedication of the KRU rider's union, and with the event being supported and organized by MaiTai Global, it is certain that this stop will be an incredible event and an important mark in the start of the new World Tour, created and supported by the riders, for the riders.

There will be many changes brought in for this season, perhaps the more notable one will be a change in the competition system, that will provide the spectators with more entertainment, and will enable the riders to be more competitive.

Registration will be taking place on the 12th of July, with the main event commencing on the 13th of July. With more than 10 female riders and over 30 male riders already registered for the event, this will undoubtedly be a week of full freestyle action. Expect to see all the top riders present, including Liam Whaley, Carlos Mario, Youri Zoon, Alex Pastor, Bruna Kajiya, Paula Novotna and many more!

The World Kiteboarding League would like to thank the public for their support, and particularly the riders for coming together and creating a World Tour with only winners!

We look forward to seeing you all in Cabarete shortly!

Is World Sailing (Class Association) or IKA involved?

I don't think so.
It's a "for the riders by the riders".
The first KRU event (Kite Riders Union).

Cool. I don't even bother following anything sanctioned by WORLD SAILING (previously ISAF) - ie World Kiteboarding Tour

Any kiteboarding competition associated with World Sailing is #fail IMO - in marketing, legitimacy and in grassroots organization decision making up to the very top (legal) level -including the $$$

the 2 best riders on earth didn't even enter the WKT comps, in fact if any rider in WKT enters another comp with the title "world champion" - they get sanctioned (cannot go back and enter a WKT event- so wonder what will happen

If they all go and enter this.... :-0

Ah well i am sure there will be further cluster f@$$ politics things going on.

I really do care about kiteboarding and do not wish to see WORLD SAILING get a piece of the pie which is not theirs for the taking. Their legal threats regarding "world champion" are a joke... there have been plenty of world champions before they poked their nose in via IKA.

Bring forth some strapless freestyle footage from Tarifa!

Will be interesting if they get it going.

And I wonder what kind of event we will have in Germany...world's biggest kite event.

Tarifa strapless news will be listed as they come in!

Politics aside, I'm excited if more of the local kids here have a chance to show a wider audience their talent. Hopefully there will be some live streaming and media coverage. :thumb:

I asked already about the Livestream, but unfortunately they won't have it.
For sure they want it for future events, but it's their first event.

Good idea Tracy. Check possibilities. I think youtube offers something for it...should be fine for us to follow it a bit. Should be interesting with the new format.

Make sure to moderate it so we know what is going on...otherwise it makes less sense :-)
