The Ozone R1V2 bashing and race kite discussion thread

Postby Mossy 757 » Wed Sep 14, 2016 11:13 pm

I'm starting a new thread since the discussion about race kites on the "fastest hydrofoil" thread got totally derailed and I think there was some mixed messaging where Gunnar thought I was trashing Ozone when in reality I was just trying to learn about a kite that seemingly defies common sense intuition about how race kites should perform/behave.

The new Sonic V2 is on its way, the Elf Joker 7 is out there, the R1V2 is killing it at major events, and I've just recently seen pricing for the new Diablo V2.

Right now my biggest questions are related to materials science and how companies are getting around the constraints and drawbacks associated with Dyneema and its tendency to shrink, canopy materials getting lighter and how that affects performance and durability, and how people are setting up their kites tuning-wise to get the best performance out of their gear.

So for those who have flown the latest generation of purebred race kites, please post your thoughts, feedback, complaints, concerns, and questions...

At designer point of view R1v2 is an extreme kite, high cell count and quite complex inner structure. D-ribs and the bridle are optimized for rigidity and good support of the wing and the lowest possible line drag of the bridle.

R1's designer has worked for his pay :thumb: I really like how kite looks like. Interesting to see if new Diablo is competitive against it.

F-one came 1 and 2 ahead of ozone at the worlds that just wrapped up so they are competitive I suppose

Just to be 100% clear. I was not refering to mossys posts (which adressed valid concerns), I was refering to foilonfoils statements.

You know what they say Gunnar"what starts in the hydrofoil section should stay in the hydrofoil section". Bringing it here...well... has already got the twit involved so don't expect anything to improve.

Yeah but the Diablo V2 riders bribed the judges with a Rolls Royce each.

When you compare those results to Mauritius, I'm inclined to credit the Banga foils those guys were riding, which might mean the kites are somewhere near equivalent to Ozone, although from watching video they certainly look different in AR and wing shape.
