It's just not a big enough kite for all conditions. I don't think it's actually available anymore.

I ride in fairly gusty high winds. Really enjoy the cabrinha switchblade. Solid airframe and very smooth - does not yank you or jerk you around.

yeah 7m is way to much for 35-45 unless you are a man of many pies. 5-6m for those winds.
I have fun on my 2012 6m reo 35-45 knots. quite often others give up and i'm still grinning.
That said its not a dedicated storm kite. I would like to try the OR storm kites one day. got no OR dealers next to me so its unlikely. Also still got a couple of years more to go on the 2012 reo.

Yea it's not big and it's not for all conditions, but above 30knts for me conditions are mostly gusty winds and irregular waves, plus the swell from fetch can add up too viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2392620 and my little 5m Storm kite works.

What I want is people with solid experience in riding in gusty conditions to share their thoughts on their kites. I don't think it should be necessary to describe gusty conditions more than I have in the first post. I would have thought experienced kiters would know what extremely gusty conditions are like.

Suffice it to say, some kites move back and forth very elegantly in extreme conditions. Others buck and surge and wobble around but still handle it. I would prefer to have the former.

I suspect I know the attributes of a good gust handling kite. I would like some confirmation from users in terms of models and brands and sizes so I don't have to randomly test kites and wait for those horrible conditions that only happen 3-4 times a year. It's far easier to weed through a bunch of posts than to organise demos of numerous kites.

At a guess it would be relatively low aspect ratio kites with a large trim range. But hey, what do I know, I'm a muppet who uses so-called "all-round kites" (2016/7 Slingshot Rally's).

Impossible to get upwind in a very gusty wind whereas a higher aspect such as my XR3 zooms upwind with ease and still provides good jumps.

High aspect for me every time.
