No you're just doomed to getting better.
The only time you see pros use straps is if it's Robby Naish or they are surfing tow-in sized waves.
Racing/ foiling is a different argument.
You might want to look into some of the patents out there where people have tried things in this area before...there are quite a few for "inspiration". And you can see what never caught on.

I agree, we are doomed to get better, and this new system will allow to evolve in a continuos way from straps to strapless.
Yes, patent search is a required step in the creation of anything new. Not only for the reason you mentioned, but also to be aware of what it is protected, what it is free to be used and what can still be patented. Done that;)

If it's magnets---its already been done and has been in testing for a couple of years.
Just learn to ride strapless.
