Unity was a school kite if I remember. I've got 2 of them in the garage actually. I wonder where this fits in the scheme of things, because realistically a Flysurfer Speed 5 is a perfectly suitable kite for a beginner. I assume a chrono v2 is the same ?

There are many reason why nobody offers a high AR kite around 5 m².
Sonic 2 comes in a 6m

Looking at the number of cells (approx 31) , it should be lower AR than the chrono 2, in the area of 5 or 5.5 I think ; I ride a recent "similar" medium ratio foil kite for one year now and love it both on Hydrofoil and TwinType , for all the simplicity, tolerance in gusts, relaunch , drift for surf and stability it procures ; jump height is also top class, while hang time is a bit shorter that race kites; I can only applause if now other brands like Ozone also propose such a kite, hopping it will be available in light cloth.
I don't have a wonderful Hydrofoil level but the medium AR foilkite allowed me to take more risks on transitions trials, surfs, or difficult rides like off-shore winds or marginal winds, with more decontraction (hence ride frequency) and less return by swimming.

We should not take "old" medium AR kite as reference, there is the same time lapse and room for improvement as between a speed 2 and a speed 5 ...

Yes it is 6,4 m² and one of the smallest high AR other as R1 v3, Diablo v2, or Sonic Race have 7 m² as smallest. And I wouldn't buy an around 5 m² high AR, even if you can go till 40 knts with them as you can also with the 7 m² from depower it is no problem, but if they collapse at 40 knt something will brake, in the best case the kite in the worst case you.

Therefore it would be nice to have a low aspect foil that can handle a 40 knts gust more or less "relaxed" without this danger.

Hi Gunnar,

have you already tested the 5 m² or can you in general say something about highend, stability, drainage...

Thanks

Hi Dude.

I only have the 9m. But it is awesome :-) I am uploading my VLOG about my first impression as we speak. So most of the questions will be answered there.

But to answer the question on high end:

Looking forward to your VLOG Gunnar, have not seen any official announcement from Ozone as yet.
Presumably it's on its way.

Dealers have had info and can pre order. I've been told the 12 is cheaper than a Zephyr.
