Here is a strange one.
I was in the ocean on a long downwinder. I just jumped off my board to take a break on the outside beyond the surf. When I eventually reached back to grab my board I put pressure on the nose which raised the tail into the air. The wind caught the tail and whipped it into my face. I instantly saw a flash of red and a crunch. Shattered my nose and broke my cheek bone. Luckily it was the deck and not the fin side. It was the summer in Hatteras when there was 11 shark attacks. I was pretty scared kiting to the beach as I was leaving a blood trail. I did not know how bad I was hurt and with my kite in the air I walked up to a lady on the beach and asked her how bad it was. She started screaming because of all the blood. Not so helpful. I actually got a Dr Friend to reset it Rocky style that day.

Geeezuz!
There's some hardcore shit in this thread!
Worst thing I've had kiting was sunburnt eyeballs, after an epic downwinder with massive glare off the water. Felt like I had sand in my eyes for two days afterwards.
Since then always wear sunglasses at all times.

some fins are way too sharp - sand tem down - like i said my friend had board flip out and the fin whacked him in the exact place where the pectorial muscle joins the bone - - it snapped the ligament and created a moob?! - horrific injury tho..

kicked the TE of my hydrofoil TWICE in like 2 minutes during a deep water packdown and put huge cuts across the top of both feet while I was bobbing in the Gulf of Mexico waiting for either the crash boat or a Bull Shark to come get me.
That sucked, but holy shit that ^ guy's leg fell off!!!
