@rynhardt that's exactly what I wanna do ... By the way what fabric is that and where did you get it ?
I infuse 5 layers 300 gsm carbon all the time with no problems
This is one of the Textreme fabrics, I don't recall offhand which one. Got it from AMT Composites in Kempton Park. Pricey though, like R500 a meter.
Pic below is the back side where the peelply came off.

I'd try Cut lap technique. Look it up.
Babysit and cut with razor when green or wait until hard and "cut" by block sanding.

My first DIY pocket board,
112 x 40 cm
1.5cm thick wood plus deck pad 5mm.
Total wieght: 6.5 kg
Board: 3.5 kg
Foil: 3 kg
Its + 0.5 kg, but feels lighter compared to my regular board when on the beach, probably because of the smaaler size...
I not yet had the chance to try it so will update on water start etc.
Im happy to say at least it floats with the foil.
cheers

Just finished this first foilboard, used left over materials and extra blank I had .
4-10x 18,75 13 liters. It's about 20 mm thick in the center, 30 + at rails.
2,5 kg without foothooks and foil.
My previous was 3,5 kg with additional 560 g adapter plate. So I can tell the difference.
Has more glass and carbon than previous, but still has some flex. I could put another 200g uni-d x100 mm strip on each side and it would probably still flex a little.

great looking board

Sad news is I crashed into a sandbank and the board folded in two.

That sucks, hope you can fix it, looked like a nice board. What was the carbon/glass layup on this board?

Sorry to see that Tom.
Would be interested to know a bit more, so we can all learn.
Is that crease at the front end of the wide carbon strip that goes under the foil attachment?
EPS core?
Did the core crush rather than bottom laminate fracture?

No fix. Goes in the trash.
Layup from top down :
200g x 2
200 g Deck patch
Cf tow tape x 4
Core+ 80kg/m2 High density foam 250mm long x 200 wide under plate.
Cf tow tape x4
Cf 250g uniD 100mm wide 1/2 of board
200g 1/2 of board
200g 1/3 of board
200g 1/4 of board
200g x 2
What I would do next time
1. Thicker foam over all, increase to 30mm min.
2. Longer piece of HD foam(?)
3. Deck and bottom would get 4 layers of 250g Uni D carbon about 200mm wide entire length of board

Yes, failed at end of wide Cf strip. Might have survived if that cf was full length.
Bottom lam intact. Deck lam collapsed / buckled under compression.
It's pu surfboard blank, which is pretty low density because it's been heavily milled down from shortboard blank to 20mm thick.
A local guy here with experience recommend much more lams, and I thought it was overkill..... My bad

What a pity , real sweet looking board
I think you going to the other extreme now .... 4x layers 250gsm is a millimeter thick!
What orientation was the glass at ? 0-90 ?
Personally I'd run a strip Ud carbon 100-120 mm wide full length of board , another strip half of board. Lay both glass layers at 45-45.
The carbon will work as a carrier for the cloth
Compression will always fail before tension on a balanced layup if the core isn't super thick
