I am experiencing wings breaching in gybes a lot and having to concentrate on altitude. The sea state is choppy, confused, and I wonder if it will be easier overall with longer strut

It will be easier to avoid with the longer one yes :D

But yes, the 101 mast is a very good upgrade overall, even in flat water, but you will feel everything will become abit less responsive compared to the 93. The setup i ride more is 101 mast + 550 + 330.
Does the mast effect the top speed? Is the 101 faster? I know it mainly depends on the wings but who knows...

I met a moses dealer during my holiday and according to him the best upgrade for intermediates is the 101 mast.

Well more mast more drag, so it affects abit the take off in light winds. It does not affect top speed by being faster, but you will be faster because it will give you more confidence going fast.

Interesting. perhaps I wasn't clear, but I want to make riding in my conditions, at my level of skill, easier. I've found the 550+330 wing combo the easiest overall. I'm not particularly trying to go faster or slower now, but learning transitions.
My biggest problem now is I'm breaching during turning/carve downwind. I really have to focus a lot on keeping low altitude.
Most often what's happening is I go into carve and as soon as I am half way through the turn, pointing downwind, and also have some lean into turn, one wing breaches ( not sure which) but I hear a shhhllurrrrp, loose lift and control and I go down.

You need 90% more pratice and 10% a longer mast :) i hope this doesnt sound ofensive, but its the truth. With pratice you can do everything with any gear, but yes, the longer mast will make it easier.

Precisely :thumb:

It doesnt matter much I think, whether it is 90 or 100 or 110 cm.

It is mostly the rider and experience, as long as you dont go shorter than 90 as then you will ventilate a lot more when you carve in chop, OR have to ride really conservative/lame to avoid it, even when experienced

So later, with experience, you will know which length you prefer in which conditions but you can almost use them all :naughty:

I was in the same place a month ago with respect to ventilating on the top of swell, or a fast transition. Pilot error on my part. The best tip I got was to visualize the board always being parallel to the water surface you're riding over, and push the hip forward as you initiate a turn or ride down swell/waves. Big improvement for me.

Thanks guys, no offense taken.
I already figured that I need to do about 500 more attempts.
Today I did 35 km and probably 25 tries, where 5-6 felt great, 5-6 I struggled through and rest were fails.
I've realized that I have to imagine swinging nose of board in an arc downward towards water. I did that once and forgot the kite and I came around so fast and smooth the kite was still going forward and I was going in opposite direction..
My surface foot switch to downloop and turn transitions are much better, I'm flying out of those.

As a side note: I learned to do a 50-50 on a skateboard when I was 52 yrs old. A younger guy and really good skater coached me for a whole year. I finally nailed it. Towards the end of 6 months of weekly sessions, a 20 year old joined a coaching session with us. He nailed it in 30 minutes....
So I'm pretty old with declining muscle memory and probably not the talented either.

It really depends on your weight and what your riding discipline is really the 550 is for lighter riders and the 548 for heavier riders IMO I'm 225 and prefer the 548 for free ride/ocean waves with my weight.550 a bit faster too,but after a few years foiling I don't mind slowing down a bit enjoying the waves more.I believe the MHL/slingshot foil is very similar to the 2015 MHL foil with the triangular fuselage which I have and ridden extensively too, great foil too, comes down to preference really the fluente is a bit faster especially w 550 wing than the MHL and the MHL has a bit longer mast so a bit more Cadillac stable ride especially when choppy, both excellent foils really if you want to race or go faster go with the Moses, bit slower cruisy riding especially for bigger riders edge to MHL,another nice thing is moses has more wing/mast options as the 2015 MHL is no longer in production so that has to be considered too.On another note I've been riding the new MHL with a 150 wing just love that foil can't get enough riding that set up,save that for another thread though.
So I'm about to test both:
- the 548 wing with 330/325 stabilizers on 42"/28" masts
- Lift 150 on 36" mast

And a cherry on top, not lightwind really
- the 545 (aka 558) wing with 330/325 stabilizers on 42"/28" masts
