I had 4 sessions on JNJ, and would agree that it is not the most beginner friendly setup. For now I'm back learning basics on Rocket foil.

BTW, it seems that the other vendors on aliexpress got the message and the competition is now on!

I wonder how much does it weigh (the package weight is 5.5 kg).

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on the JNJ. I've repeated asking about getting the mast and the baseplate glued prior to shipping with adverting answers. As a total newbie with composites whats the procedure for fusing the 2 pieces together I've read this entire thread 4 times and am in over my head on how to fuse the 2 sections together.

Scratch the surfaces and apply epoxy? Cloth? what brand epoxy? Solarez? west 209? how to add cloth and do all this without a visual mess of glue all over? Sorry I don't even get the terminolgy as i've never worked with carbon.

I really want this setup as i've rode a few of these higher aspects and it was all over the place, but once i found you go faster they are ultra stable. I'm gonna go for one fast one and keep my other for surfing and low wind option.

I get that you want to score the perfect set up right out the gate, but the fact your asking is a pretty sure sign your not gonna pull it off. I wanted to get a foil to last and it took, knowing what style I wanted to get into and a decent bit of research to understand what the better options were. The thing I weighed most in my choice was the track record of the company/designer. Pretty sure you haven't a clue about what that foil is even a copy of let alone weather its a decent foil or not.

If "carbon" is the selling point for you, I can assure you, whatever you get will be quite out of date in a couple years and you'll want something else anyway.

I would imagine the quality of both design and construction vary widely at this stage of the knock off game. No big deal if your a researched gambler, but if you don't know what your looking at and want a sure thing, there are plenty of better proven options.
Yeah, you are right I don't know much about this foil but I do have slight understanding of the difference between beginner foils and this foil. Not sure how asking about something has anything to do with not being able to pull it off. Ideally, I would get a Liquid Force Rocket Fish but where I live there aren't many used ones for sale and if there are people tend to charge the sale price that new ones are listed for. Another reason I'd prefer this setup is it should be faster based on my understanding and what people have mentioned here that purchased this foil.

I used this one:

I'd suggest that the glue strength is not that important, because it is not under any noticeable stress. When the foil is free in the water, the force down is 1 kg, tops. I squeezed some glass cloth in between the collar and the mast, but don't think it was worth the trouble.

I have to agree with BWD. Starting with a known cheap/used foil and selling it to upgrade is your best bet in my opinion. I bought the LF Foilfish brand new for $1K at the beginning of last season. I've seen them used for $500. This is the board, mast, fuselage, wings, and a longer fuselage for learning.

I may end up buying one of the Chinese foils to upgrade to. But I don't think it would have been a good starting point.
If could find such a deal on LF Foilfish I'd definitely pull the trigger but I haven't seen such deals in my area. The only used deal I am seeing is $1100 for a Happy Foil setup which I think is a bit much.

For $1100 you can get this one brand new. This is where I bought my setup and these guys were great. No tax or shipping costs by the way.

thanks, I may do that if I don't find a used one. The season here is almost over so hopefully I can get a better deal before March of next year.

I don't see any screaming deals here at the moment, but this is the result of a quick search...

thanks for the research, I saw 2017 Happy Foil setup for sale for $500 about two weeks ago but missed it by a day. So I'm gonna wait it out, sounds like getting the JnJ foil is not a good option for me.

Deals like the Happy Foil for $500 come up here and there. But you have to jump on them. I do think you'll have a much better time starting this way. I've got a buddy with the JNJ foil that asked me to test ride it for him because he didn't yet have enough experience. I thought it was a good setup, but not ideal for beginners.
