G10 fuselage

Postby jaros » Fri Sep 29, 2017 8:37 am

Could a fuselage be made out of G10? I gues there is a reason why nobody is doing it...

yeah I can't see a reason why not.

It is quite hard to machine and turn though. not sure anyone makes sheets thick enough.

G10 is way too soft. That is why you cannot make it out of pure G10. We used to use G10 as a core on the original Magma Foil fuses. These were wrapped in carbon to make them stiff. In theory you can make a g10 fuselage, but to achieve the stiffness it would have to be super thick.

As Gunnar says , wrapping with biax carbon will give the piece tortional strength , essential for a nice stiff fuselage

Wow a fabled triple post.

Yup the cost and material properties makes it not worth it.

Yes, you'd be more cost and labour efficient to do a wood core and spend the money on carbon.
