I would go ahead and drill the holes. In the original photo I didn't see the front straps so I didn't understand just how off center your set up is. If you are anything like me, you will love boosting on your hydrofoil, which is hard to do strapless. Anyway I understand there are a lot of foilers who are all into the strapless mode for them they would never drill holes in a board, but if you like boosting then you are more like me and start drilling, you will need the holes later when you start catching air. I think most of the posters didn't read that first post closely enough, so they didn't understand from the photo just how off center your entire set up is. From what you have described your wing is sitting almost on top of your back foot strap so of course it's way off center and you need to bring both your front strap back and your rear strap back. I'm thinking you will want not just a new set of holes for your rear but both new rear and front strap holes so you are more properly centered over your wing with both feet. Might need some new deck pad too. Kind of weird that this whole set up is 10cm (4 inches) off center. On my setup I have a sliding plate to mount my foil so I can move my foil placement around if I want. Even if you don't use the new holes right now it does give you additional mounting options for later. The only downside is it will hurt resale value of the board.

Removed the rear hook and added a block of foam at the tail of the board. Waterstarting was no problem. Definitely an improvement and the foam was useful as I had my rear foot up against it.

The rear mounting fir the foothook in relation to the mast mount doesn't look that far off. But somewhat close.
If you want to go back to straps, you'll need to move the mast mounts forward 50mm and the front strap.

Actually this issue of mast/wing insert position in relation to board is not so easy to work out. And each foil is a bit different.

Your board looks like it's filled with holes as it is...

Unless I'm mistaken I see two mast mounts already drilled and you put your mast in the wrong mast holes they need to be in the other set near the front. looks like there are 6 mast holes drilled so you can move the mast back where you have it or took the front holes where it should be

Agree fully, it looks like there are two settings, the rear one you have used which is "safe" when learning (board wont shoot up out of the water too easy), and the forward ones which are when you get experienced.

What you do now, placing the rear foot further rear to balance, is perfect and a good compromise as I can read you are between noob and experienced right now.

When you feel it hinders you, meaning that you always think you would like it to be more balanced between feet - move it to the forward position :thumb:

One other point is the front foot hook places your front foot further back than straps would.
I suspect that with this setup you are always going to find it difficult with the mast in the more forward position.

Back foot is usually just at the rear bolts, as shown in previous picture.

Ditch the back hook and go strapless, much better

Still pretty sure that the ideal position would be just a bit further forward. I'll save the front holes for when I am fully strapless. But thanks to the comments I'm one foot hook closer to strapless at least! And I managed my first toeside runs today so happy to keep things as they are for a bit longer. Cheers!
