The way those valves fail is never the Teflon tape. It's always the female valve which gets a rip right near the edge of the valve. To pull it off you want to wedge your fingers between the male valve and the female valve and pull. You can also wedge a spoon in there and lever it. However I can tell you 100% of the times I figured I just needed Teflon tape it was actually a torn female valve. So make sure you are able to buy an octopus replacement valve to fix it. Good luck. Old naish octopus valves are the least fun things to work on partly because it's so hard to figure out where the leak is and partly because it's so difficult to take apart and put together. If it's an older kite a lot of times it's not worth fixing because when one valve goes all the rest are starting to go too. The new naish kites don't have the octopus making them much easier to repair when they get old.

Obviously best done with fingers if possible but I have heard hose removal pliers recommended but no actual experience.

Anybody know if a soak in snoop, dishwash/water, would help?

Removal is not the issue. After I put the bladder back on I was wondering about the c clips. Anyway I don’t think it’s as much an issue as is using plumbers tape on the valves.

I've had a leak when I put on too little and much teflon tape. It was the same time. I figure the right amount was a round and half or two.
