Galicia, Spain

Postby N00bz » Mon Jul 09, 2012 5:25 pm

Hi guys,
I'm heading down to the Galicia-region in Spain next week with the family. I'm not sure if I should bring my gear as I can't seem to find any reliable information on kitesurfing spots in the region. We will be staying near the town of Vigo on the Atlantic coast. Does anyone know if this is a good place for kitesurfing?

Cheers,
Martin

I'm from close to Galicia and the place has many spots with nice waves too. I haven't been for years and I don't know what's the windy season, regulations etc. I suggest you to ask in the follwowing forums

Near Vigo, people usually kite in Playa del Bao in Samil for flat water or in Playa de Patos for waves, but i really don't know if kiting in any of those spots it's allowed nowadays in the summer, as theses beaches get really crowded with tourists. The typical winds this time of the year are the N thermals and they're pretty light anyway.

If you can manage it, your best option is to drive down to Portugal, either to Moledo (just south of the border/river) or better still to Viana do Castelo (20km south of Moledo) where the thermals are much stronger (add 10 to 15 knots to whatever is blowing in Samil) and you have great flat and perfect down-the-line wavesailing.

Thanks for the tips guys!
I'll be sure to check out the spots near Vigo, but since the drive down to Portugal isn't too long, I might just pop down for a few days.
