Wider foot pads and straps

Postby CARMELHILL » Wed Jan 30, 2019 8:51 pm

I'm looking for wider foot pads, straps, bindings that fit a 10 or 11 sized foot with a winter bootie on. The standard straps out there have horrible adjustment and most seem to be designed for riding naked in the tropics. Squeezing your oversized foot while slopping around in 40f water is no fun.

Can anyone chime in to explain what they are using. Ideally it would have additional lateral mount holes so you can screw it into the adjacent inserts of the deck of the board.

I ordered a pair of DUOTONE 2019 Vario Combo to see if they are any good. I also noticed a few companies have Large/XL options like Liquid Force Pro Pad Strap Kit or the Cabrinha H2, but they don't go into detail about adjust ability.

I use Duotone L/XL NTT/Entity straps. You can make them extra wide and high to get winter booties in. For bare feet I leave them on the widest setting and just tighten them up a bit. Only straps I've found which give this level of adjustability, but they don't use 'standard' strap setting hole widths.

Thanks you very much for the SP Kiteboarding recommendation. I'm going to order a pair and use the Duotone as backup. I can't freakin believe you can custom order foot pads. I would have never thought of it. Life is good.

Yea i was wondering same thing for many years whats the deal with all the bindings being so Small that u cant fit a decent cold water bootie in them . It has become an exercise in frustartion to choose new bindings and even the ones that say large Dont work well. i mean is it that difficult to create a decnt adjustable binding that fits the average mans foot in winter booties. Through the years ive resorted to cheap ebay bindings and slingshot bindings seem to work but with just barely enough room.

Check out the Nobile bindings. They come in multiple sizes. A friend of mine with size 14 feet can get his 6mm winter boots into the large size without a problem. I remember he tried the large sized ratchet ones but they didn't fit as well.

Personally I don't have a problem as my average sized feet seem to be alright in a whole bunch of styles but having mountain sized friends I do understand the problems.

Low profile boots seem to help (particularly those without straps for tightening). I wear the decathlon cheap 3mm booties and they seem to be warm enough but snug enough that I don't really need to change size between bare feet and boots. I think the tightness stops the build up of water inside the boot meaning they stay small?

For those with big feet and/or thick booties, I know some who've had a good experience with NSI's Twintip Padz that are 12.25" long x 8.5" wide and combined with their Ratchet Straps...

I wear a 13 sized Nike running shoe in the US. I got lucky with my first board b/c it had the slingshot bolt on straps. I will always use them as long as they are available. They are big, the straps are flexible and easily expandable during riding. My big foot doesn't hang off them either....these are the straps I'm talking about: http://www.mackiteboarding.com/2017-sli ... fHEALw_wcB
