Can’t kite without wind
IT'S A WINDSPORT!!!
Too many types of vessels can be used behind a kite to call it a boardsport imo. E.g. Buggies aren't boards.
Same goes for windsurfing and wingfoiling. No wind, no play.
I will say that I'm actually surprised kitesurfing/boarding was never called windboarding (like snowboarding).

Oh I routinely refer to it as simply kiting, but I do it for the boardsport.

We can't fight it !!
We are WINDJUNKIES
First thing we do everyday
Check forecast of the wind strength & direction
During all day we look up at the trees for wind
As I text this I'm looking outside at signs of increasing wind
I just saw a good gust
Looks promising
Yay !
Looks like a session coming up
KITES go in the car FIRST then the boards

I dunno - foiling barely seems like a "boardsport".

Depends on how you ride it I guess.

I stand on mine sideways and go rail to rail to rail to rail to rail...

It is both.

I know what it isn't... sailing :-0
I agree most definitely not sailing. Sailing is sitting in a tub driving a vehicle. With kiteboarding you are part of the craft.

The worst part of considering kiting as sailing is people try to apply sailing rules to kiting. They simply do not work.

How many of you were banned from kiting because boating and boating facilities got shut down?

That would depend very much on the tub. There's quite a bit of this sort of thing going on now:

No one I know. I'm not sure if you're using that as an example of sailing rules applying to kiting ... or sailing rules NOT applying to kiting? :-?

The way in which kiting is like sailing is because it is also a wind sport. I feel I have more uncommon with sailors than I do with wake boarders who get towed around (on a board) behind a stinkpot.

Trouble is that today people like to twist words and definitions into their own agenda $

It is exactly the same as the world canoe association did to SUP when there was a sniff of potential olympic money.

Claimed authority despite never previously being involved with the sport of SUP

Exactly the same as World Roller Skating did to skateboarding when there was the first sniff of olympic grants/$

Claimed authority despite never previously being involved with the sport of skateboarding

Calling kitesurfing sailing was simply a focused campaign to enable one sport to obtain the grant money of another because of threats from IOC to World Sailing to introduce profitable advertising revenue from a more entertaining show or face the chop. (Widely reported)

When you see the CEO pay rates and employee rates of these organisations ( annual salaries in the 100s of thousands of US dollars and 100s of millions in Grant's from IOC), you finally understand how important power and maintaing control is to them. When you look further into it you will be astounded to find out that most of the employees have had nothing to do with the sports.. ever. It is mind blowing.

I think what really nails it is when you see kite surf comps or freestyle comps authorised by World Sailing.

People are like really? Wtf?! How did that happen?!

But most of us without a vested intere$t know kiteboarding is it's own sport with it's own history, pioneers and grass roots events.. none of which ever previously had anything to do with
Sailing and that they do not have kiteboarding best interests at heart.. look at world sailings accounts/ relationships to kiting.. public info.

So I say it is fine to say kiteboarding mixed elements of other sports.. but to define it as another sport has been hugely damaging to kiteboarding imo and is also a historical lie.

Kiteboarding is kiteboarding.. it is using a kite to pull you around on a board.. simple as that.

That is what we like to do.

When ride a sup are you canoeing? No

When you go skateboarding are you roller skating? No

When you are kiteboarding, are you sailing? No

.

World Sailing will hopefully stop the flow of grant $ to outsource kite comps that barely cover airfares for competitions, they are already in a lot of financial trouble due to super high wage spending(admin).

Then we can take back our sport. I watched one of the live streams .. 23 live watchers.. you see world sailing themselves were probably sold a whole lot if b$%shit themselves.

By kiteboarders for kiteboarders

I would like to see people like Bruno Legagneux ( INVENTOR OF KITEBOARDING) and other grass roots pioneers and riders take the reigns of kiteboarding... from the top down.

End this sailing $hit now!
