Secure foil from Olaian/Decathlon

What do you think of this concept? It looks like it could create a lot of drag. Maybe good for complete beginners? Also has soft edges on the mast for softer impacts.

As Matty says: I was pretty sure I have seen the "connected front-back wing" before.
Certainly not the first company to do this. No clue if they where/are any good.

Solution looking for a problem. It's based on the idea that the foil is an evil axe that is going to chop you and kill you. Experience shows that isn't true.

There's no need for razor sharp foils or points on tips. Lightweight carbon foils can hit you and bounce off.

There's always a risk that something might hurt you, but that's true of everything. Think about what would happen if you fell and got your leg stuck through the frame while a wave pulls the board at an odd angle. :o

While the whole connecting ridges might be a bit overkill, and coming with a big cost in terms of drag, I do really like the rubberized edges on wings and on mast. I've had a few bits of skin encounter the hard thin surfaces of foils, and any attempt at making this a bit less traumatic is welcome. Should help also for durability of the foil as that's where 90% of the scratches and marks happen.

Kane Sweitzer got cut to the leg bone by his foil.
A friend of mine got 7 stitches in his scalp recently, another got stabbed through the wetsuit in the back 1 cm deep, both in ankle high conditions and with detuned foils.

We simply do not know how many incidents like this or worse are happening because most of them go unreported.

The frame is good for schools and beginners, probably a huge performance loss for anything else.

But some sort of safety trailing edges and tips is doable IMHO without giving up anything,

A bit more focus on safety would be welcome in the foil market. I find it crazy to take a sandpaper to a completely new 1000-2000$ product, just to stay a little safer.

I've instinctively developed a "turtle tuck" position with my arms covering my head every time I wipe out on my kite foil. But after all the stories I might get a helmet also.
